Getting around Salzburg
CityBus (StadtBus) (tel: 0800 660 660; www.salzburg-ag.at) has a comprehensive bus route network covering Salzburg and its environs with around 20 routes in all. During weekdays, buses leave every 10 minutes between 0630 and 2000 and slightly less frequently early in the morning and late in the evening. Services are less frequent at the weekends, particularly on Sundays.
In addition to single-fare tickets, you can buy 24-hour cards and Weekend Cards (Wockenendticket; valid for up to five people) which are valid on the whole transport system in Salzburg. For a stay of more than three days, it makes economical sense to buy a Week Card (Wochenkarte). There is also the SalzburgCard, which is made especially for tourists and is valid for either 24, 48 or 72 hours.
There is no shortage of taxis in Salzburg. Salzburger Funktaxivereinigung (tel: (0662) 8111) has more than 250 of them. Other companies include Salzburg Taxi Service (tel: (0664) 851 6643).
Car hire is available from most of the major international companies, including Avis (tel: (0662) 877 278; www.avis.at), Hertz (tel: (0662) 852 086; www.hertz.com) and Sixt (tel: (0662) 856 051; www.sixt.com). Denzel Drive (tel: 05010 54000; www.denzeldrive.at) is a local operator with a desk at the airport.
Salzburg is a great place for cycling, and Top Bike Salzburg (tel: (06272) 4656; www.topbike.at) operates two rental stations from late spring to the autumn, one located at the central station and the other in the centre of the Old Town next to the main bridge - the Staatsbrücke.
