Things to do in Seville

Cycling

With the introduction of a proper cycling route network, Seville has transformed into a bicycle-friendly city. Automated bicycle system, Sevici, is an economical and convenient way to explore the city. Outfitters like Cyclotour organise city bike tours that include audio guide and museum visits. While there are plenty of cycling opportunities within the city, explorations of the surrounding countryside are best-suited for experienced bikers or guided bike tours, as routes are not signposted or well-marked.

Cruising

With Spain’s only navigable river winding its way through Seville’s city centre, river cruising is pretty much a quintessential activity in the Andalusia capital. Cruceros Torre del Oro is the main cruise company, and it sails two routes: a one-hour ride through the heart of the city, and a longer journey departing every weekend (May to Oct) to Sanlucar de Barrameda, the gateway of Doñana National Park.

Hiking

Straddled by mountain chains, Seville is just a hop away from the tumultuous slopes riddled with excellent hiking trails and mountain trekking routes. Just an hour’s drive north of the city is the Sierra Norte, where the trail to Cazalla de la Sierra is the most popular day-trip excursion for Sevillanos. It’s an easy half-day hike suitable for leisure travellers, although the area offers other trails of varied difficulty level. In the nearby Sierra de Grazalema, you’ll also find a phalanx of hiking opportunities. Pedal y Aventura organizes small group hiking tours to these areas.

Watersports

Seville might not be located along the coast, but it sure has the biggest river in Spain flowing through the heart of the city. Along with the extreme heat in summer, the river provides a respite and an ideal setting for all sorts of outdoor options. Activities by the Guadalquivir River range from swimming to sailing, windsurfing and canoeing. There are various rental companies perched along the riverbanks. For families with children, check out Aquapolis to the East of Seville city, a massive aquatic park that opens only in summer.
