Klosters - Resort information
If you exhaust the possibilities in Klosters, a trip to Davos might be worth considering. Around 35km (22 miles) of cross-country trails span out along both ends of the valley from Klosters, suitable for all ability levels.
The village has a thriving cultural centre, the Kulturschuppen Klosters, Äussere Bahnhofstrasse 3 (www.kulturschuppen.ch), which includes a theatre and a cinema – but note that feature films are often shown in the original language.
There are a number of art galleries and museums in the resort, including the Kirchner Museum (tel: (081) 410 63 00; www.kirchnermuseum.ch) – named after the expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner who lived in Davos during his formative years.
If you’re feeling sporty away from the slopes, Sportzentrum Klosters, Doggilochstrasse 51 (tel: (081) 415 3600), offers skating (free for resort guests), speed skating, ice hockey and curling. Other options in the resort include ice climbing, paragliding and horseback riding.
Back on the snow; choose from tobogganing, snowshoeing or Nordic walking on one of the three trails ranging from 3.5km to 4.6km (2 to 3 miles).
Non-skiing young children (two years and above) can be looked after at the crèche near the gondola at Madrisa, which also has a children's ski park. Ski and snowboarding tuition is available from several ski schools, which including tailored classes for kids.
For older children and teenagers, the Sportzentrum Klosters sports centre has hockey and curling classes.
Shops in Klosters include fashion and sports retailers, mostly found in the vicinity of the train station. Im Spinnänetz, Äussere Bahnhofstrasse 1, is a good option for handicrafts and there is a small supermarket in the centre. A wider range of shopping opportunities is available in neighbouring Davos.
Maybe you've fantasised about soaring weightlessly and effortlessly over the mountains, with the wind caressing your face, and no engine roar to distract from the serenity of your surroundings. If so, you have a chance to make it a reality as Flugcenter Grischa, Talgasse 33 (tel: (081) 422 2070), offers paragliding tandem flights over the Prättigau valley, taking off from the Gotschnagrat.
