Sestriere - Après-ski

Often lively, Sestriere attracts snow sports fans from all over Europe and further afield, creating an international party atmosphere in the 20 or so bars and nightspots.

Black Pepper, Via Monterotta 5C, and La Caverna, Via Louset 6C, are both good choices for après-ski in Sestriere, as is The Brahms Pub in the central square. The only disco, Tabata, Via Monterotta 1, is usually very animated.

Eating out:

There are 30 restaurants in Sestriere, and with a more international and cosmopolitan feel than most Italian ski resorts, there is a better selection than the usual collection of pizzeria and spaghetteria - although don’t fret, there are plenty of these too.

At the high-calibre cuisine end of the scale, Vineria del Colle, at Grand Hotel Sestriere (tel: 0122 76476; www.grandhotelsestriere.it), offers both classic Italian dishes and Piemontesi specialities, with a huge variety of wines. Du Grand Père, Via Forte Seguin 14 - Champlas Janvier (tel: 0122 755 970; www.ristorantedugrandpere.it), has a pleasant ambience along with great food.

Amongst the many pizzeria choices, Pinky, Piazza Fraiteve 5N, is fast and friendly and Zio Popy, Via Monterotta 1C, is also known for its speedy service.
