The materials that are used are just as off beat: beech, flowers, fruits amongst others. The hearts weight almost 800 kilos and are paraded through the streets and eventually to the church where they are offered to the Patron Saint: San Bartolome. A festival rooted deeply in religion centered around intricate colourful carpets made out of flower petals and volcanic sands. The highlight of the festival is an 800 square meter tapestry (made out of petals and sand from the protected Teide National park) covering the central square in front of La Otava's town hall. A beautiful piece of art which lasts only a few hours until the Procession takes place across the suare.
