Šumica
The car park at this favourite of the local besuited brigade is full of flash cars and it is easy to see why. It is set amidst woodland overlooking the sea just southeast of Bačvice. Seafood is the undoubted star, grilled to perfection and served up with an impressive array of Croatian wines both from the coast and the highly regarded hinterland too. One of the finest restaurants in Split.
Bruna
Bruna is a refined and assured hotel restaurant in Split loved by locals and visiting businesspeople alike. The highlight is dining out under the stars on the restaurant’s large terrace. Settle in for a set menu or go à la carte for some seriously fine white fish. The grilled squid is excellent as are the selection of white wines from the Slavonia region of Croatia.
Nostromo Restaurant
The seafood comes straight from the fish market just outside and could not be fresher at Nostromo, the finest seafood restaurant in Split. Choose from a variety of white and blue fish or splash out on an Adriatic seafood platter to share. It comes heaving with grilled fish, squid, mussels, langoustines and whatever else the chef fancies popping on. Excellent Dalmatian wines too.
Enoteka Terra
This cellar wine bar located in Bačvice is something of a local secret. Enjoy wonderful Croatian vino by the glass as you nibble on tapas Croatian style at this top Split restaurant. The varied menu features the likes of spicy Slavonian sausage, pršut (air-dried ham), as well as dishes infused with pungent Istrian truffles. More substantial dishes, such as sea bass and fillet steaks, are also available at this gastronome’s paradise.
Kod Jože
This rustic konoba (traditional Croatian bistro) serves excellent fish and meat dishes. There is something on the menu to suit every budget from cheap and delicious seafood risotto to more pricey local langoustines (scampi). It gets massively busy in summer with both locals and tourists so make sure to get in early to snare a pew on the communal benches.
Pizzeria Galija
Customers tuck into delicious brick-oven baked pizzas at heavy wooden tables in this informal, bustling pizzeria, close to the fish market.
Restoran Jugo
Sailing types feast on the terrace of this glass-fronted 1970s building overlooking the yachts moored in the ACI marina. The stunning view back across the bay to the Riva and the Old Town more than rewards the walk to this Split restaurant - the Dalmatian dishes don't disappoint either. The risotto-based dishes are excellent value, while the price of quality white fish can be ramped up to bend the credit cards of visiting yachties.
Šperun
This small, cosy restaurant in Split offers refined local cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood; the interior is decorated with antiques and modern oil paintings. The daily special is often a good bet. Come early if you want to nab one of the sprinkling of outdoor tables, and stay away from the fresh gilled fish if you want to stick to a tight budget.
Stellon
Cooking everything from simple pizza and pasta dishes to perfectly cooked steak served with truffles from Croatia’s Istrian region, Stellon caters to all tastes. Throw in the contemporary décor and relaxed ambience and it is easy to understand its popularity with a young crowd down in Bačvice Bay.
