The completion date of a major expansion project, which includes the construction of a new domestic terminal building, has been set at 2016.

There are several information desks dotted around the terminal building in both the domestic and international areas.

Transfer between terminals: 

A shuttle bus operates between the terminal and car parks, as well as the on-site Novotel hotel.

Driving directions: 

Road access to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is provided by five highways connected to Bangkok's outer ring road. The main access road (and the most convenient route) is an elevated road going north from the passenger terminal to the Bangkok-Chonburi Highway.

Public Transport

Public transport rail: 

Rail: Airport Rail Link (tel: (02) 308 5600; www.railway.co.th) runs 24-hour services from a station immediately beneath the terminal building. Fast services include the SA City Line route that stops only at Makkasan Station (journey time: 15 minutes) en route to the city centre, and the New SA Express Line, which goes non-stop to Phyathai Station in the city centre (journey time: 18 minutes). A slower city train, which stops at six stations and takes a little under 30 minutes, is also operational.

Public transport road: 

Taxi: Taxis (tel: (02) 132 9199) are available outside Arrivals. It is advisable to book taxis at the service counters. There is a fee of ฿50 to be paid to the driver in addition to the fare.

Bus: The Airport Express bus services stop outside the international arrivals area, and offer four routes into Bangkok. Journey times average at around 45 minutes. Local buses operate from the Public Transport Centre, which is reached via a shuttle bus and connect to various destinations in Bangkok.

Money: 

Bureaux de change and ATMs are located throughout the terminal building.

Communication: 

Public telephones are available on all levels. Wi-Fi internet access is available at various points throughout the terminal building (the first 15 minutes is free). Internet access points and postal facilities are located on the second and fourth levels.

Food: 

There are numerous fast food outlets, bars and restaurants at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. These can be found on levels three and four. In addition, there are four restaurants and two bars in the nearby Novotel Bangkok Suvarnhabhumi Airport hotel (tel: (02) 131 1111; www.novotel.com).

Shopping: 

Shops selling everything from freshly cut flowers to designer clothing are available on levels two, three and four of the terminal building. Duty-free shops are also on these levels, with most located on the main departures level (level four).

Luggage: 

Luggage trolleys are available in the arrivals and departures halls. A left luggage service is available on levels two and four (tel: (02) 134 7795/6). A lost property counter (tel: (02) 132 1880) is situated on level four.

Other: 

A wide variety of facilities are available in the terminal building, including traditional Thai massage and spa facilities. A medical clinic (tel: (02) 132 7777) is available on level one. Muslim prayer rooms are located on the third level of the terminal building.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

There is a business centre at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport offering a variety of services, including meeting room hire. Extensive meeting and conference facilities are also available at the nearby Novotel Bangkok Suvarhabhumi Airport hotel (tel: (02) 131 1111; www.novotel.com). CIP airline lounges (tel: (02) 134 6284) are located on level three, some of which offer first class and business travellers a range of services, including private meeting rooms, state-of-the-art video and visual entertainment rooms and shower facilities.

Disabled facilities: 

Facilities and arrangements for disabled travellers are in place, but the airport's designers have been criticised for not making the airport sufficiently accessible for disabled people. For example, it has been argued that the restrooms designed for people with special needs are not spacious enough for wheelchair users.

Car parking: 

Short-term parking is available adjacent to the main terminal building. Long-term parking is available away from the immediate terminal area adjacent to the Public Transport Centre. Parking information is available (tel: (02) 132 1888).

Car rental: 

The car hire service counter is situated outside the international arrivals area. Avis, Budget and Hertz are represented at Bangkok Suvarhabhumi Airport, as well as several local operators. Hire cars should be returned to the Car Rental Service Office in the Public Transport Centre.
