A walkway with escalators and travelators connects the two terminals.
From central Istanbul, take the E-5 or O-1/O-2 motorways to Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, which is well signposted.
Public Transport
Metro: The light rail metro system line M1 connects Istanbul Atatürk International Airport to Esenler metro and coach station.
Bus: Havas (tel: 0212 465 4700 or 1615; www.havas.net/en) airport buses run to central Istanbul (Taksim Square) and to the bus terminal on demand (journey time: 40 minutes; fare: YTL10). Services also operate to Kozyataği and Bakirköy.
Taxi: Taxis (tel: 0212 465 5236; www.havalimanitaksi.com) or dolmuş (shared taxis) are available outside the terminals.
Terminal facilities
There are three banks with bureau de change facilities, as well as numerous ATMs.
Post offices are located in both the International and the Domestic Terminals. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available at lounges in both Arrivals and Departures of both terminals. Paid-for internet access is also available at certain points throughout the terminals.
There are bars, snack bars, cafés, fast-food, and restaurants at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, some of which are open 24 hours a day.
There is 24-hour shopping at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, including an authentic bazaar and duty-free shopping in the International Terminal.
There is a lost property office (tel: 0212 463 3000 ext. 4690 or 4691) in International Arrivals. Lost luggage desks are located in the baggage reclaim areas. A 24-hour left-luggage facility is available in Arrivals in both terminals, and a porter service also operates 24 hours a day.
Other facilities at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport include a 24-hour pharmacy and first aid clinic, babycare rooms, a children’s play room and hairdressers. There are also six mosques within the airport, open 24 hours a day.
Airport facilities
There is a conference centre (tel: 0212 465 3442) with facilities for up to 200 delegates in the International Terminal. There are also three conference halls available: the Tepe Conference Hall, seating 70; the Akfen Conference Hall, seating 200; and the F Ergokmen Hall, for 50 delegates.
There are five CIP Lounges in the International Terminal, offering internet, fax and photocopying facilities; some of these are open 24 hours a day. Some airlines also provide business lounges. The Millennium Lounge serves business-class passengers of other airlines.
Business and conference facilities are also available at the on site International Airport Hotel (tel: 0212 465 4030; www.airporthotelistanbul.com), and the nearby Radisson Blu Conference & Airport Hotel (tel: 0212 411 3838; www.radissonblu.com/hotel-istanbulairport).
Istanbul Atatürk International Airport has lifts and numerous wheelchair-accessible toilets. Disabled passengers requiring assistance with boarding aircraft are advised to contact their airline in advance. Wheelchairs are available at the airport, but passengers should make advance arrangements with their airline. A bridge taxi is available after passport control on the Departures floor, for those who need to get to distant gates (tel: 0212 663 2550). There are car parking spaces reserved for disabled passengers.
There is a car park located at each terminal; with space for 7,200 cars at the International Terminal in a multi-storey car park. A valet service is available (tel: 0212 465 4433).
Car hire companies at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport include: Airport VIP, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty, as well as a number of local operators. Counters are located in the arrivals area of the International Terminal, just after the baggage reclaim area.
Airport hotels
Airport Inn Hotel is located close to Atatürk International Airport and Istanbul's World Trade Centre. The 19-room hotel has its own restaurant and offers a free shuttle bus service to the terminals.
Çinar Hotel is located five minutes from Istanbul Atatürk International Airport and 20 minutes from central Istanbul. The hotel has meeting and conference facilities, a swimming pool, bars and restaurants.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel Istanbul-Harbiye is located in the centre of Istanbul, 30 minutes from Istanbul Atatürk International Airport. The hotel has a range of entertainment, business and travel advice services available.
The Holiday Inn Istanbul Airport Hotel is just seven minutes from Atatürk International Airport, and the hotel operates a free shuttle service to/from the terminals. Hotel facilities include a restaurant and bar, conference rooms and a spa.
The Istanbul International Airport Hotel is linked to the terminals at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport and boasts 85 rooms, a gym, conference rooms and a business centre.
Radisson Blu Conference and Airport Hotel is located near Ataturk International Airport and offers a complimentary shuttle service to/from the terminals. Facilities include a Turkish hammam and a business centre. On-site dining is available in the Olivos Restaurant.
Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel is located less than 3km (2 miles) from Istanbul Atatürk International Airport. Facilities include a fitness centre, business centre and spa. A free shuttle service connects to the airport.
