There are plans, as yet unscheduled, to lengthen the runway to accommodate larger aircraft.
There are several electronic information booths at the airport, as well as roving passenger service assistants. The booths contain touch-screen information on onward transportation, local amenities, airport navigation, parking and live flight information.
From the M1, exit at Junction 10 and follow signs to the airport. From the east and A1, take the A505 dual carriageway at Junction 9; the airport lies just off the A505 and is clearly signposted.
Public Transport
Rail: Luton Airport Parkway Station, 2km (1 mile) from the airport, is connected to the terminal by a free shuttle bus service. Both First Capital Connect (tel: 0845 676 9904; www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk) and East Midlands Trains (tel: 0845 712 5678; www.midlandmainline.com) provide services to London. Virgin Trains (tel: 0845 722 2333; www.virgintrains.co.uk) operates an express coach connection to its West Coast main linerail services at Milton Keynes station.
Bus: Free Luton Airport Express shuttle buses run to/from the Luton Airport Parkway Station. Local bus services connect the airport with the surrounding areas. For further information contact Traveline (tel: 0871 200 2233: www.traveline.org.uk).
Coach: The Greenline 757 is an express coach (tel: 0844 801 7261; www.greenline.co.uk), which runs daily between the airport and central London. Easybus (website: www.easybus.co.uk) offers a 24-hour service to London Victoria. Numerous National Express coaches run from the airport to destinations all over the country. Taxi: Alpha Taxis (tel: (01582) 599 499; www.alphataxisluton.com) and Luton Taxi Association (tel: (01582) 735 555; www.lutontaxis.com) offer pre-bookable services to and from the airport, while licensed taxis are available at a rank outside the terminal.
Terminal facilities
Bureaux de change, ATMs and web-enabled telephones can be found throughout the terminal building. There is an Internet café in the terminal, and wireless Internet access is available in bars, restaurants and public seating areas.
The airport has a range of restaurants, cafés and bars, including a food court and a traditional English pub.
There is a wide variety of shops at the airport, including 24-hour duty-free shopping and a 24-hour newsagent and bookstore.
There are no left-luggage facilities at there airport. There is a lost property office (tel: (01582) 395 219).
These include a children's play centre, baby-care rooms and a chapel.
Airport facilities
The Aviance Executive Lounge (tel: (01582) 700 898) provides Internet access, pay phone and fax facilities, newspapers, television, and complimentary drinks and snacks. Meeting rooms are available at the nearby Ibis Hotel (tel: (01582) 424 488; www.ibishotel.com), and the Express by Holiday Inn (tel: (01582) 589 100; www.ichotelsgroup.com).
The airport is fully accessible and includes adapted toilets and telephones and induction loops at information points. Wheelchairs for transit through the terminal and help with baggage are available free of charge via the special assistance telephones. Passengers who require help boarding aircraft should request this service in advance from the individual airlines. Disabled parking is available (tel: (01582) 395484). Luton Airport Express shuttle buses are wheelchair-accessible.
There is express, medium-stay and long-stay parking available at the airport, with express parking situated within easy reach of the terminal building. There are courtesy buses to the mid- and long-term car parks. Passengers can pre-book parking through the airport website, or through NCP (tel: 0845 050 7080; www.ncp.co.uk).
Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Enterprise are represented at the airport. Free shuttle buses link the terminal with the car hire centre.
Airport hotels
Holiday Inn Express is the closest hotel to London Luton Airport and is linked via a shuttle bus service. The hotel has seven meeting rooms with space for up to 50 people, free Wi-Fi Internet and a business centre.
Ibis Hotel London Luton Airport is a 10-minute walk from London Luton Airport. The 162-room hotel has Wi-Fi Internet access, a café and meeting rooms for up to 80 people.
