The airport is situated next to junction 8 of the M11 motorway, less than 20 minutes away from junction 27 of the M25 motorway and is easily accessible from London.
Public Transport
Rail: The station is located directly below the terminal building. The Stansted Express rail service (tel: 0845 850 0150; www.stanstedexpress.co.uk) runs direct to London Liverpool Street Station (journey time: 50 minutes), stopping at Tottenham Hale for tube connections to the West End. Central Trains (tel: (0121) 634 2040; www.centraltrains.co.uk) operates services via Cambridge and Leicester to Birmingham. Bus and coach: There are National Express (tel: 0871 781 8181; www.nationalexpress.com) coach services to London Victoria (A6), London Liverpool Street and London Victoria (A7), Stratford (A9) and other destinations. Easybus (website: www.easybus.co.uk) provides regular connections to London Baker Street for which bookings can be made online. The Terravision Express Shuttle (tel: (01279) 680 028; www.terravision.eu) provides a non-stop service to London Victoria. Other services are available. Taxi: Stansted Taxi Service (tel: (01279) 816 901; www.stanstedtaxiservice.co.uk) and 24/7 Stansted (tel: (01279) 661 111) operate services to London and elsewhere, departing from outside the terminal building.
Terminal facilities
ATMs, bureaux de change and an Internet exchange with wireless Internet are available, along with post boxes. Paid wireless Internet access is also available throughout the terminal (website: www.boingo.com).
There are various restaurants, cafés and bars, including a 24-hour coffee bar.
There are numerous shops throughout the terminal, as well as duty-free outlets. A free shopping collection service is available for passengers travelling within the EU (tel: (01279) 662 546).
There is a left-luggage facility (tel: (01279) 663 213) and a lost property service (tel: (01279) 663 293).
There is a multi-faith chapel, baby-changing areas and showers.
Airport facilities
The United Business Centre (tel: 0800 169 9822; www.unitedbusinesscentres.co.uk) conference facility, with rooms for up to 30 people, is a short drive from the terminal, courtesy cars are available, and it is open Mon-Fri. The Hilton London Stansted (tel: (01279) 680 800; www.hilton.co.uk), located at the airport, offers a courtesy bus link to/from the terminal, and has meeting rooms for up to 250, plus a fully serviced business centre. The Radisson Blu Hotel (tel: (01279) 661 012; www.radissonblu.co.uk/hotel-stanstedairport) hotel is two minutes away via a covered walkway from the terminal building, and can cater for meetings with up to 400 delegates. Business lounges are available and are bookable via the airport website.
There are wheelchair-accessible toilets throughout the airport, hearing loops and TDD telephones. All telephones are fitted with induction couplers. Reserved seating and parking are provided; courtesy transfer shuttles are wheelchair-accessible. Ramps, lifts and elevators link all levels of the terminal building, including the station. Passengers requiring wheelchair and assistance boarding the aircraft should contact their airline prior to travel. All trains serving London Stansted Airport are equipped with facilities for disabled passengers; many coaches are not and passengers should check with the individual service providers.
There is short-, mid- and long-term car parks, with short-term parking located very close to the terminal building. Pre-booking is available (website: secure.baa.com/baa). Regular coaches transfer passengers from the mid- and long-term car parks to the terminal. Parking for motorcycles is free in the designated ‘D’ zone of the long-stay car park.
Airport hotels
DeSalis Hotel is located within 3km (2 miles) of London Stansted Airport terminal and is linked via a 24-hour shuttle bus service. The hotel has an on-site restaurant and is adjacent to a nine-hole golf course.
Express by Holiday Inn is within 3km (2 miles) of London Stansted Airport and is linked via a bus service, which takes five minutes. The hotel has six meeting rooms, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet in common areas, and a 24-hour business centre.
Hilton London Stansted Airport is a six-minute shuttle bus ride from London Stansted Airport. The hotel has 14 meeting rooms, a gym, bar and on-site restaurant.
Radisson Blu Stansted Airport is located two minutes from London Stansted Airport via a covered walkway from the terminal building, and can cater for meetings with up to 400 delegates.
Stansted Airport Motel is located a short drive from London Stansted Airport and offers on-site parking.
