Sacramento International Airport’s new Terminal B opened in October 2011. A new light rail link serving the airport is due to commence operation from 2017.
Ground transportation information booths are located in both terminals. Hotel information boards and Travelers Aid kiosks are also present in the two terminals. Recorded information is available (tel: (916) 874 0700).
Shuttle buses link the terminals and parking areas.
Sacramento International Airport is located on Airport Boulevard, off Interstate 5. Driving east or west to the airport on Interstate 80, or west on Interstate 50, follow signs to Interstate 5 North and take the airport exit.
Public Transport
Bus: Yolobus (tel: (530) 666 2877; www.yolobus.com) provides a public bus service on the intercity bus route 42 to central Sacramento, Davis and Woodland. The journey time to central Sacramento is about 45 minutes, and the fare is US$3.
Shuttle: SuperShuttle (tel: 800 258 3826; www.supershuttle.com) provides an on-call service to Sacramento and other counties. Vans can be reserved for travel to outlying areas (see the airport's website for details).
Taxi: Taxis (tel: (916) 444.0008) are available from the ground transportation area adjacent to baggage claim at Terminal A, and next to the food court in Terminal B.
Terminal facilities
There is no currency exchange service at Sacramento International Airport, however there are ATMs.
There is a full-service post office on Lindbergh Drive, outside the terminal complex. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available in the terminals.
Eating facilities include a pizza restaurant, a bar, fast-food outlets, coffee shops, a Chinese restaurant, a delicatessen and a bakery. There is a food court situated between terminals B1 and B2.
Shops at Sacramento International Airport include a sunglasses outlet, a travel goods provider, a bookshop, a newsagents and gift shops.
There is a lost property service (tel: (916) 874 0701) operated by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department at Sacramento International Airport. Luggage trolleys are available.
An emergency-only medical service is available by dialling 911 on the white courtesy telephones. There are children's play areas in Terminal A. Both terminals have 'pet relief' areas.
Airport facilities
The on-site Sacramento International Jet Center provides conference and meeting facilities. Meeting and conference space can also be found at many of the hotels in the local area.
Sacramento International Airport is fully accessible to disabled travellers. For wheelchair assistance, contact the airline or dial 00 on a white courtesy phone. Skycap porters can provide wheelchair assistance free of charge. There are several TDD phones located throughout the airport. Designated car parking spaces are available for disabled travellers (tel: (916) 874 0681). All airport shuttle buses are lift-equipped. Paratransit (tel: (916) 429 2744) provides transport services to registered disabled customers to and from the airport – with at least two days’ notification. Avis, Budget, Hertz and National offer vehicles for travellers with disabilities (vehicles must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance).
There is space for over 12,000 cars in four car parks at Sacramento International Airport, including hourly and daily car parks for Terminals A and B and remote economy parking. The first half-hour of hourly parking is free. Further airport parking information is available (tel: (916) 874 0670). There is also a free ‘cellphone lot’ for drivers collecting arriving passengers. Two new car parks are due to open in 2012.
Car hire companies at Sacramento International Airport include: Advance, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Payless. A shuttle ferries passengers to/from the car hire building.
Airport hotels
With 100 rooms, and a number of meeting rooms, the Hampton Inn is a good option for the business traveller. Breakfast and beverages are included in the room rate, while those in need of exercise can take advantage of a gymnasium and an outdoor pool.
Located close to Scaramento International Airport, the Hilton Garden Inn has an outdoor heated pool, a fitness centre and on-site dining.
Around 5km (3 miles) from Sacramento International Airport, the Holiday Inn Express Sacramento Airport has a business centre, gymnasium and outdoor pool. A courtesy shuttle service to and from the airport is available on request. Breakfast is included in the room rate.
The Homestead Studio Suites Hotel offers accommodation near Sacramento International Airport. Hotel facilities include a guest laundry and paid-for Wi-Fi internet. Access to an off-site fitness centre is available for a charge.
Located 9km (5.5 miles) from Sacramento International Airport, the Residence Inn offers a shuttle bus service to/from the airport. Other services include free high-speed internet, meeting space and a fitness centre.
