Airport news: 

Major runway improvements, which began at Portland International Airport in May 2009, are due for completion in late 2011.

Information: 

Two staffed information desks operate in baggage reclaim, with other information points located around the terminal. Uniformed volunteers provide passenger assistance at peak periods. Computerised kiosks and brochures provide information in Chinese, English, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Foreign-language assistance is also available through AT&T at the information desks. The airport's information centre can provide further information (tel: (503) 460 4234).

Driving directions: 

The terminal is served by Airport Way, which leads directly off Interstate 205. Comprehensive driving directions from various areas can be found on the airport's website.

Public Transport

Public transport rail: 

Light rail: TriMet MAX light rail services (tel: (503) 238 7433; www.trimet.org) run from Portland International Airport to central Portland (journey time: approximately 40 minutes) and Beaverton on the Red Line. Tickets are available from machines in the arrivals lobby area and on the station platform, which is located on Airport Way, close to the terminal building. A one-way ticket costs US$2.40.

Public transport road: 

Bus: Many shuttles and coaches operate from Portland International Airport to various areas around Portland.

Taxi: Taxis are readily available, departing from the Ground Transportation Center on the west side of the parking garage, in front of Arrivals. The journey to downtown Portland usually takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic.

Terminal facilities

Money: 

A full service bank is located in the terminal building. ATMs and two bureaux de change are also available.

Communication: 

Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout much of Portland International Airport, on the network 'flypdx'. Postage stamps are available at ATMs, as well as at the News Express and Your Northwest Travel Mart shops near the security area.

Food: 

There is a good selection of cafés, bars and restaurants at Portland International Airport, within the terminal building.

Shopping: 

There are numerous shops at Portland International Airport, but duty-free is only available once on-board the aircraft. No sales tax, however, is charged at airport outlets, which include sportswear providers, bookshops and retailers selling specialist local products.

A lost property service is available in Arrivals (tel: (503) 460 4272).

Other: 

Other facilities at Portland International Airport include a hairdresser’s, a massage salon, a shoeshine kiosk; three members’ lounges and a children’s play area.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

The PDX Conference Centre (tel: (503) 460 4050) offers meeting rooms and business facilities and can accommodate up to 65 people. Audiovisual equipment, photocopying, fax facilities, workstations with computers, private telephone rooms, typewriters, and a secretarial and notary service are available. Communication services, including fax, PC workstations and postal facilities, are also available at service centres on Concourses C and D. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available in most parts of the terminal building.

Disabled facilities: 

Portland International Airport is well equipped for disabled travellers. Facilities include adapted toilets, TTY telephones, visual paging and a guide dog area. Reserved car parking spaces are available in the parking garage, next to the elevators, as well as near the bus shelters in the economy and long-term car parks. Airport shuttles are wheelchair-accessible. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.

Car parking: 

There is a covered car park with direct access to the terminal. Economy and long-term car parks are also available, with free shuttle buses running to/from the terminal. Motorcycles are not permitted in any of the car parks; however, parking for motorcycles is free on the arrivals level. Valet parking is available just outside the terminal, as is a 'cellphone' car park for ‘meeters and greeters’. For more information on parking call: (503) 460 4848.

Car rental: 

Car hire companies at Portland International Airport include: Avis, Budget, National, Enterprise and Hertz, which are all located in the Car Rental Center, on the first floor of the main car park. Advantage, Alamo, Budget and Thrifty have kiosks located just outside the centre.

Airport hotels

There are two hotels at Portland International Airport, and numerous others within a short distance. Many offer courtesy shuttles to and from the terminal.

Embassy Suites Portland Airport

Less than 1.6km (1 mile) from the entrance of Portland International Airport, Embassy Suites offers two-room, apartment-style accommodation, together with a shared pool, gymnasium, and 24-hour business centre. Breakfast is included, and there is a restaurant on site.

Located on the grounds of Portland International Airport, the 129-room Hampton Inn offers shuttle transfers, a pool, business facilities and meeting rooms. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and there is an on-site convenience shop.
