Airport news

The construction of a new international terminal (which will serve flights to and from Central and South America) began in October 2013. The terminal is expected to open in late 2015.

Information

There is a visitors’ information desk in the baggage reclaim level. In addition, uniformed representatives are stationed at key locations throughout the terminal - these can provide medical assistance, book meeting space or suggest accommodation options. The black airport telephones within the terminal are for paging assistance. An information telephone line can provide further information (tel: (713) 640 3000).

Driving directions

Houston William P. Hobby Airport is easily accessible via the major roads and motorways connecting the entire metropolitan area. Interstate 45 borders the airport and links to both the city centre (northbound) and the Gulf Coast at Galveston (southbound).

Public Transport

Public transport road

Bus: The METRO bus service (tel: (713) 652 8990; www.ridemetro.org) leaves from Curbzone 13, on the lower level outside baggage reclaim, for services into Houston (journey time: around 30 minutes; fare: from US$1.25).

Shuttle: Shuttle services are provided by Supershuttle (tel: (713) 523 8888 or 1 800 258 3826 in the USA only; www.supershuttle.com) to various locations throughout the Houston area.

Taxi: Taxis leave from Curbzone 3 on the lower level outside baggage reclaim. The fare to central Houston starts at around US$26, and the journey time is between 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day.

Money

ATMs are available in baggage reclaim, the central concourse and the food court areas.

Food

There are numerous eateries at the airport, including a Mexican restaurant, seafood bar, fast-food outlets and cafés.

Shopping

Shops are located in the central lobby upper level of the terminal, as well as in the central concourse and concourses A and C. Among the options are newsagents, sweet shops and gift retailers. Duty-free shopping is not currently available.

Luggage

Luggage trolleys can be hired in the baggage reclaim area. A lost and found service is available (tel: (713) 845 6673).

Other

There are interfaith chapels in the main concourse and near gate 40. Other facilities include pet relief areas, massage chairs and shoeshine booths.

Conference and business

The airport offers a wheelchair-accessible meeting room that can be booked through an airport representative. Bureaux de change can provide fax and photocopying facilities. Paid for Wi-Fi internet access is available in the terminal.

Meeting and event rooms for up to 150 people are available at the Holiday Inn (tel: (713) 946 8900; www.holidayinn.com) less than 1km (0.6 miles) from the terminal building, and at many other Houston hotels.

Disabled facilities

There is disabled access in all areas of the terminal. Visually- or hearing-impaired passengers can request information and assistance (tel: (713) 640 3000 or TDD (713) 641 7781). The black airport telephones located throughout the terminal are for paging assistance.

Car parking

There are spaces for more than 4,000 cars at the airport. The majority of public parking (tel: (713) 641 7770) is available in a four-level car park that has direct access to the terminal building. An additional surface car park is located within walking distance of the terminal. Up-to-date parking and travel information can be found on the radio (1610 AM) when approaching the airport. Additional services include valet parking and a free 'cellphone' waiting area for drivers awaiting arriving passengers.

Car rental

Car hire companies Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty are represented at the airport. Car rental desks are situated in the arrivals baggage claim area.
