A new car hire facility, originally scheduled to open in the spring of 2011, is now due to enter service during mid-2012. Various smaller improvement projects are also in progress.
An airport information booth is located in the baggage claim area across from carousel 12.
A train service connects the Main Terminal to the nearby North and South Satellites.
From the north and south, take Interstate 5 to exits 154B and 154 respectively and drive west on SR518 to the airport exit. From the east, take Interstate 405, which turns into SR518, and then take the airport exit.
Public Transport
Light rail: The Central Link light rail service (tel: (888) 889 6368; www.soundtransit.org) operates from a station on the fourth floor of the airport. The journey time to downtown Seattle is about 40 minutes, and the one-way fare is US$2-2.75 depending on the destination.
Bus: Metro Transit (tel: (206) 553 3000; metro.kingcounty.gov) runs a 24-hour bus service to Seattle and various regional destinations. The fare is US$3 at peak times, and US$2.25 off-peak.
Shuttle: A number of shuttle operators run door-to-door services to Seattle and other Washington destinations. Downtown Airporter (tel: (855) 556 3300; downtownairporter.hudsonltd.net) operates shuttle buses between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and hotels in the city centre – fares start at US$12.50. Shuttle buses leave from the Ground Transportation Center.
Taxi: Taxis and limousines are available from the Ground Transportation Center. There is a flat fare of US$32 for transfers from city centre hotels to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, but this does not apply for the reverse journey.
Terminal facilities
Bureaux de change, ATMs, and change machines are available throughout the main terminal building.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, as are internet enabled payphones. There are several postboxes in the terminal, while stamps can be purchased at the ATMs. Mobile phone chargers are also available.
There are numerous coffee shops, bars and a variety of self-service, full-service and fast-food restaurants at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Shopping facilities include bookshops, gift shops and duty-free shops, the majority of which are located in the Central Terminal.
Luggage facilities at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport include a baggage and storage service in the reclaim area of the terminal building. There is a lost property office in the Main Terminal, up on the mezzanine level. Luggage trolleys are available for a US$4 fee.
Other services and facilities at the airport include family toilets, massage, shoeshine, a pet relief area and a meditation room.
Airport facilities
Conference facilities are available at the Hilton Seattle Airport and Conference Center (tel: (206) 244 4800; www.hilton.com). The Regus Business Centers Express on Concourse C sells a range of business accessories.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is equipped with disabled toilets, lowered drinking fountains, ramps and adapted lifts with Braille signage. Some 80 amplified phones for the hearing-impaired are located throughout the airport. Airline staff can provide wheelchairs on request. Reserved parking spaces are available in the parking garage.
The covered airport car park is connected to the Main Terminal via skybridges and offers short- and long-term parking. Special rate ‘general parking’ is available on four floors of the garage and serves as the airport's long-term parking area. Valet parking is available. Car hire companies at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport include: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz and National, which offer pick-up and drop-off at the airport, on the first floor of the garage. Advantage, Dollar, Enterprise and Thrifty provide courtesy shuttles to/from their off-site locations. All have information desks in the Arrivals area.
Airport hotels
Located less than 2.5km (1.5 miles) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the Best Western Airport Executel offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to the terminals. Other facilities include a meeting room and a cocktail bar.
Very close to the airport, the Hilton operates 24-hour courtesy shuttle service both to the terminal and the light rail station. The property has extensive meeting space, an on-site business center, fitness centre, outdoor pool and restaurant.
Offering a business centre, gymnasium, and two meeting rooms, this is a lower-budget option about 4.5 km (3 miles) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. However, the room rate does include breakfast, and a free shuttle is available to and from the airport and several nearby restaurants.
Less than 3km (2 miles) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, this 259-room hotel is also near the light rail station and is connected via a shuttle service. The hotel offers meeting facilities, a business centre, a fitness centre and spa.
Close to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, this 204-room hotel is also within walking distance of the light rail link. It has eight meeting rooms, a grill restaurant, free internet access, a newly modernised gymnasium, indoor pool, and free shuttles to various points in the local area.
The Seattle Airport Marriott has a full-service business centre, rooms for smaller meetings, and a choice of three dining options. There is a pool in the building's atrium area, and a fully-equipped fitness centre. The hotel is 1.6km (1 mile) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
