Valletta Events

Malta's summer arts festival is an ambitious collection of visual and performance offerings that takes place at venues across the old city of Valletta. The total package of cultural events includes an opera premiere, cutting edge contemporary dance, virtuoso classic concerts, experimental theatre, poetry recitals accompanied by ethnic music and the annual Shakespeare play. The festival began with an exhibition of the work of 20th-century Maltese artists.

Freedom Day is a public holiday in Malta and commemorates the withdrawal of British troops from the island in 1979. The day is celebrated with a ceremony at the War memorial in Floriana. In the afternoon there is a traditional regatta held in the waters of Grand Harbour. Food and drink stalls line the harbour adding to the celebratory feel.
