Vilnius Nightlife

The large student population help fuel Vilnius’s eclectic and buzzing nightlife scene. In summer, tables burst out everywhere as the scene becomes positively Mediterranean, while in winter the bitter cold and snow drive people inside.

Throughout the year, Vilnius bustles with the arts, ranging from small-scale street theatre right through to grand opera performances and classical music recitals. The city’s stint as European Capital of Culture in 2009 has really given the city’s cultural scene a real shot in the arm. Many performances are only in Lithuanian as the country celebrates the return and dominance of the local language after decades of Soviet-era suppression.

Avilys

Avilys brews its own excellent beer and is one of the best nightspots for a relaxed drink in Vilnius. Three varieties of unfiltered beer are made on site: the ale-like 'Avilio Light', the sweeter 'Honey' beer and the dark 'Korio' with added ginseng. Avilys also offers interesting dishes made with beer, hops or honey, including beer soup and chocolate beer truffles.

The Pub

Old expat favourite The Pub is still going strong in Vilnius. Attracting expats and university students, The Pub has a familiar, laid-back atmosphere and good beer on tap. On the weekends it curiously becomes one of the most popular places in town to hit the dance floor.

Clubs in Vilnius

Galaxy

Galaxy is one of the biggest nightclubs in Vilnius and can hold over 1,000 techno devotees. Located in Forum Sport Palace and designed as Vilnius's biggest indoor concert venue, this three-floor amphitheatre becomes a club on Friday and Saturday nights with four bars, cosmic lights and a transformable stage for visiting DJs or live bands.

Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre

The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of the biggest cultural venues in Vilnius.

National Drama Theatre

The popular National Drama Theatre in Vilnius is one of the largest theatres in Lithuania. It has staged more than 280 productions since it was founded in 1940. Today, the theatre's repertoire consists of classical dramaturgy, the works of 20th-century dramatists and plays by contemporary Lithuanian writers. The theatre also plays host to a number of annual festivals.

National Philharmonic Hall

Featuring a concert hall and a smaller chamber hall, Vilnius's National Philharmonic Hall hosts National Symphony Orchestra concerts and is the centrepiece for the Vilnius Festival (June), the Gaida Contemporary Music Festival and the St Christopher Summer Music Festival.
