Shopping in York
Shopping in York is a major attraction. Besides the usual high-street chains, York is filled by little independent shops, particularly art, antique and antiquarian bookshops. A free shopping guide offers a choice of five walking trails and is available from the visitor information centres or online (www.visityork.org/distinctiveshopping).
Check out the wonderful Worm Holes Bookshop, 20 Bootham. You’ll find succulent chocolate treats at Monk Bar Chocolatiers, 1 Goodramgate and 7 The Shambles. A trip to either Betty's, 6-8 St Helen's Square, or Little Betty's, 46 Stonegate, is a must; the company's famous teas, breads and cakes make good souvenirs.
York's daily Newgate Market, situated in Newgate, adjacent to The Shambles, has over 100 stalls, with particular emphasis on local produce.
