Plovdiv shows off Deutsche Telekom's prestigious contemporary art collection from Apr 04 to Jun 30, 2019

A country that’s been known to bewitch its guests with the unique charms of Eastern Europe, Bulgaria is comfortably nestled in the Balkans and brings with it an air of mystique and a bounty of eclectic, cultural gems.

Settled at the heart of the country is the captivating Plovdiv, a hub of art that’s rich with the history of this proud Eastern European nation. Voted as one of Europe’s ‘cultural capitals’ for 2019, Plovdiv will captivate and enthral its visitors with a range of musical, artistic and dramatic delicacies littered throughout the city.

Built around seven hills, Plovdiv is the second-largest city in Bulgaria and boasts some of the most spectacular ancient ruins in Europe. From its unique historical background to its status as modern-day Bulgaria’s artistic epicentre, Plovdiv has something to offer anyone travelling the Balkans.

Now is a good time to go, and you can coincide your visit with the arrival of Deutsche Telekom’s prestigious contemporary art collection ‘Artistic Intelligence’. Running from 4 April to June 30, “Listen to us – Artistic Intelligence” will be held in the City Art Gallery, and invites residents and tourists alike to immerse themselves in this fantastically curate contemporary collection.

Boasting artworks from former Eastern and South-eastern Europe countries, Deutsche Telekom’s collection seeks to explore the social and political implications resulting from the fall of the Iron Curtain, and are not to be missed if you are visiting the European Capital of Culture this year.

With a number of featured artists having directly played witness to the divisive political ideologies of capitalism and communism, and used their art as a means of propagating their country’s movement towards democratisation, the collection is a unique and interesting insight into Eastern European culture, both artistically and historically.

With featured artists including:

Nevin Aladağ, Anatoly Belov, Luchezar Boyadjiev, Yane Calovski, Levan Chelidze, Danika Dakić, Braco Dimitrijević, Aleksandra Domanović, Petra Feriancova, Igor Grubić, Aneta Grzeszykowska, Nilbar Güreş, Vladimir Houdek, Hristina Ivanoska, Pravdoliub Ivanov, Sanja Iveković, Nikita Kadan, Mi Kafchin, Šejla Kameric, Lito Kattou, Luka Kedžo, Genti Korini, Eva Kot’átková, Maria Kulikovska, Nino Kvrivishvili, Radenko Milak, Ciprian Mureşan, Lada Nakonechna, Vlad Nancă, Paulina Ołowska, Roman Ondak, Dan Perjovschi, Cristian Răduţă, Stepan Ryabchenko, Slavs & Tatars, Nedko Solakov, Mladen Stilinović, and Martina Vacheva.
