Airport news: 

Grantley Adams Airport underwent major expansion and improvement prior to Barbados' hosting of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. Work following the tournament has seen the addition of a separate Arrivals area, as well as expansion of the duty-free shopping area and restaurant facilities.

Driving directions: 

The airport can be accessed from the ABC Highway, which runs from Bridgetown to the airport (journey time: approximately 30 minutes). It can also be reached from Highway-7 along the southern coast.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Bus: Easily-recognisable modern Mercedes Benz buses operate regularly to/from the airport. A service runs to Bridgetown every 10 minutes 0600-2400, departing from the Main Road outside the terminal building (journey time: 45 minutes; fare: Bds$1.50).

Taxi: Taxis operate from the airport, 24 hours a day, including Barbados Tours (tel: (246) 420 2877) and Quintette (tel: (246) 428 8735). Taxis operate on a fixed-fare basis and do not have meters; fares should be agreed in advance. The average fare between Bridgetown and the airport is around Bds$30.

Terminal facilities

Money: 

There is a bank, and bureaux de change at the airport.

Communication: 

There is a post office within the terminal, plus Internet access points.

Food: 

There is a bar and a number of restaurants at the airport.

Shopping: 

There is a pharmacy, souvenir shop, ice-cream parlour, supermarket and delicatessen. Duty-free can be found in the Departures lounge; there is also an in-bound duty-free shop in the Arrivals lounge, open for international flights.

Other: 

There is a chapel on the mezzanine level. Tour operators are also represented.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

The Club Caribbean Lounge has a business centre, with fax and Internet facilities, as well as meeting rooms. The British Airways and BWIA first and business class lounges also have fax and Internet facilities. Airline executive lounges are located on the mezzanine level. The Casa Grande Hotel (tel: (246) 416 2272; www.casagrandebarbados.com) has extensive meetings and events facilities, and is less than 10 minutes from the airport. Elsewhere, the island offers two large convention centres as well as hotel meeting rooms.

Disabled facilities: 

The arrivals and departures halls are located on the ground floor and can be accessed by disabled passengers. There is a lift to the restaurant on the mezzanine floor and disabled toilets throughout the airport. Wheelchairs can be provided by individual airlines, which will assist passengers onto the aircraft by ambulift; passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.

Car parking: 

There are two car parks at the airport, both within walking distance of the terminal. There is no distinction between short- and long-term parking.

Car rental: 

Courtesy Car Rentals is the only car hire company at the airport; its desk is located just outside the Arrivals hall. Other car hire companies are located off-site and will deliver pre-booked vehicles to the airport.
