Airport news: 

Wellington International Airport doubled the number of car parking spaces on the upper level of the main car park in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Information: 

Wellington International Airport has an information station in the baggage claim area, with customer assistance phones and details of transport, accommodation and other visitor services. A team of volunteer 'airport ambassadors' are on duty during the afternoon in the busiest areas of the terminal.

From central Wellington, take State Highway 1 southbound and follow the signs for Rongotai/Airport.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Bus: The Airport Flyer express bus (tel: 0800 801 700; www.metlink.org.nz) runs every 15 minutes from the airport to central Wellington and the Hutt Valley; the journey time is approximately 25 minutes.

Shuttle: A number of shuttle bus companies, including Super Shuttle (tel: (04) 472 9552; www.supershuttle.co.nz), provide shared-ride services to central Wellington from outside Arrivals.

Taxi: Taxis are available immediately outside Arrivals. The main operators are Wellington Combined Taxis (tel: (04) 384 4444; www.taxis.co.nz), Green Cabs (tel: (0508 447 336; www.greencabs.co.nz) and Corporate Cabs (tel: (04) 387 4600; www.corporatecabs.co.nz).

There are ATMs, banking facilities and foreign exchange kiosks in the terminal building,

Communication: 

Postal services are available at Travelex on level 1 of the terminal building. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge. Pay phones and internet/phone kiosks are located throughout the terminal.

Food: 

There are restaurants, fast food outlets, cafés and a bar in the food court area on level 1 of the terminal building.

Shopping: 

A number of gift shops, duty-free outlets and designer brands can be found in the concourses in the terminal building. Additionally, there is a large retail park on the southwest boundary of the airport site, with 12 superstores.

Luggage storage and lost property services (tel: (04) 385 5124) are available on the ground level.

There is a parenting room on level 1 and a first aid service (tel: (04) 385 5124).

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

Wellington Airport Conference Centre (tel: (04) 385 5199) offers a range of meeting rooms with capacity for up to 100 people. It is situated on level 2 of the main terminal building. There is also a corporate lounge.

Disabled facilities: 

Dedicated car parking spaces, and car park lifts, are available for the disabled. In the terminal, there is lift access to all levels, and specially adapted toilets. Wheelchairs are available; these need to be arranged with the airline.

Car parking: 

Short- and long-term parking is available, as well as premium covered parking. The long-term car park is linked to the terminal by free shuttle buses. Valet parking (tel: (04) 801 0639) is available.

Car rental: 

Car hire companies at Wellington International Airport include: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty. Car hire offices are located on the ground level of the main terminal building in Arrivals.

Airport hotels

There are no on-site hotels at Wellington International Airport, but there are a number of options nearby. Most accommodation, however, is in Wellington itself.

Airport Motel

Located near Wellington International Airport and the Airport Retail Centre, Airport Motel offers motel-style accommodation and car parking facilities. The motel is linked to the airport by a shuttle bus service.
