Missed the boat on Oktoberfest, but fancy a splash of beer-related fun? Here is our Bitesized guide to alternative October beer festivals around the globe.

The Great Indian October Fest, India

Where: Thripuravasini, Palace Grounds, Bangalore
When: 23-25 October
Website: www.theoctoberfest.in

Bangalore’s bustling event has all the elements for a top beer festival: great food, even better beer, and a barrage of entertainment. A whole tapestry of music is on offer, from live bands to international DJs, and the lively atmosphere continues with games, films and flea markets.

Brew Wharf Yard Beer Festival, UK

Where: Borough Market, London
When: 1-4 October
Website: www.brewwharf.com

Beer may be strictly for the 18s and over, but this is wholeheartedly a family affair. Find live music, face painting, children’s entertainment and giant games, as well as the expected large amounts of beer. Traditional pub food is served all day, and if the sun hints at shining, there is also the chance of some barbecued food.

Sample NY Beer Festival, USA

Where: New York Wine & Culinary Center, New York
When: 2-3 October
Website: www.nywcc.com

Sample the best beers from New York State breweries as well as fabulous local cuisine. Events include the “Taster’s Choice Award” and various beer and food pairing lessons from expert chefs. Visitors who take their own glass to the Saturday tasting in the Beer Garden will receive free entry.

Mondial de la Bière, France

Where: Parc des expositions (Strasbourg Exhibition Centre), Strasbourg
When: 16-18 October
Website: www.festivalmondialbiere.qc.ca

Taste traditional beers from around the world and learn about brewing techniques at the first Mondial de la Bière to be held in Europe, in none other than France’s ‘capital of beer’: Strasbourg. The festival will be dedicated to beers from artisanal and craft breweries, with literally hundreds of brews on show and for sampling during tasting competitions.
