Currency information

US Dollar (USD; symbol $) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of $100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1. Coins are in denominations of $1, and 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 cents.

The US Dollar replaced The Netherlands Antilles Guilder or Florin as the currency of St Eustatius on 1 January 2011.

Credit cards

MasterCard and Visa are accepted in large establishments.

Banking hours

Mon-Fri 0830-1130 and 1330-1630.

Currency restrictions

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency. Sums exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 US$ need to be declared.

Currency exchange

There are three banks on the island. All major currencies can be exchanged.

St Eustatius duty free

Overview

The following items may be imported into St Eustatius by persons over 17 years of age (tobacco products) or over 18 years of age (alcohol) without incurring customs duty:

• 200 cigarettes or 50 cigarillos or 25 cigars or 125g of tobacco.
• 1L of spirits over 22% volume; or 1L of alcoholic beverages less than 22% volume and 2L of non-sparkling wine and 8L of beer.
• Gifts up to a value of US$500 (or US$150 for children under 15).
