International Heritage day is celebrated on 18 April, with a week of activities in and around Darwin. Events include: an architectural walk around city heritage buildings, a heritage bus tour, afternoon teas and a film night at Burnett House.

Open Cockpit Day

This is a chance for plane buffs to sit in the cockpits of aircraft on display at the Aviation Heritage Centre. Planes includes an USAF B-52 bomber, RAAF F-111 fighter/bomber, RAAF Sabre fighter, RAN Wessex helicopter, USAAF Cobra helicopter and ultralight aircraft. This has turned into a popular annual event.

NT City 2 Surf Fun Run Series

The City2Surf Fun Run is just over 12km (7 miles) and starts at Mindil Beach before heading out to East Point and back again. The program also has a shorter 4km option or a short fun run for kids.

Darwin Triple Crown

Petrol heads will love the thrill of the action as racing cars hurl around the Hidden Valley track in this exhilarating sport. The course is only 10km (6 miles) from Darwin.

The Northern Territory's biggest horseracing event culminates in the running of the Carlton Draught Darwin Cup.

Territory Day

Territory Day marks the anniversary that self governance was handed down to the Territory by the Commonwealth Government and is celebrated with a spectacular public fireworks shows over the Timor Sea. Mindil Beach in Darwin is a popular vantage point to watch the action, while food stalls and picnics are popular too.

Darwin to Ambon Yacht Race

Head to Darwin Harbour to catch the colourful spectacle of yachts setting out to race to Indonesia. A festival atmosphere is guaranteed as crowds gather to watch the start of the 600-nautical mile race to the capital of the Spice Islands.

Darwin International Film Festival

Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin

The bombing of Darwin in WWII is commemorated each year on 19 February at the Cenotaph in Bicentennial Park. The city also hosts an array of events to mark the occasion, such as theatre productions, exhibitions, and memorial services.
