Airport news

The new Star Alliance (Skylink) terminal extension (known as Check-in 3) was completed in mid-2012, resulting in increased shopping and dining options, a new arrivals hall and additional departure gates.

Following the opening of the new pier, Check-in 1 (the former Terminal 1) was refurbished and opened in January 2013, while Check-in 2 (the former Terminal 2) is currently closed for renovation.

Information desks can be found in the check-in areas and at the bus station. The airport has a 24-hour flight information service (tel: (01) 7007 22233).

Transfer between terminals

The check-in areas (known as Check-in 1, Check-in 1A, Check-in 2 and Check-in 3) are housed in one building and are within walking distance of each other.

Driving directions

The quickest route to the airport is via the A4 Airport Motorway, which leads southeast from the city centre. Take the exit marked ‘Flughafen (Airport)’ and follow the road directly to the terminal.

Public Transport

Public transport rail

Rail: The City Airport Train (tel: (01) 25250; www.cityairporttrain.com) runs to the City Air Terminal at Wien Mitte station in central Vienna (journey time: 16 minutes; fare: €11).

The overground S-Bahn (tel: (05) 1717; www.oebb.at) connects the airport to Wien Mitte and Wien Nord stations (journey time: 25 minutes; fare: €4.20). Connections to the Vienna U-Bahn (underground rail) system are available from these stations.

Public transport road

Bus: Vienna Airport Lines buses (www.postbus.at) operate to Wien Mitte (journey time: 20 minutes; fare: €8), Südbahnhof and Westbahnhof railway stations, as well as to Wien Schwedenplatz and UNO City (United Nations complex). Buses depart from outside the central arrivals hall.

Coach: Services are available to Bratislava (Slovakia), Kosice (Slovakia) and Budapest (Hungary) among other destinations. For full timetable and fare information, visit the airport’s website.

Taxis: Taxis to the city leave from outside the central arrivals hall. Taxis are offered by a range of providers, including Airport Driver (tel: (01) 22822; www.airportdriver.at), Total Taxi (tel: 664 250 5005; www.totaltaxi.at) and C&K (tel: (01) 44444; www.cundk.at). Fares into the city centre start at €25 (but the average fare is around €33) and the journey time is generally around 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Terminal facilities

Money

Banks and foreign exchange services are available in the departures and public areas of the terminal. There are also numerous ATMs throughout the airport.

Food

A wide range of cafés, snack bars, restaurants and bars can be found within the terminal, both before and after the security checkpoints.

Shopping

There are more than 70 shops offering a wide variety of gifts, designer clothing and food, including duty-free outlets for those travelling outside the European Union.

Luggage

Porters (tel: (01) 7007 33140/1) are available on request at a small charge. Luggage trolleys are also available. There is a 24-hour left-luggage facility and safety deposit boxes in the main arrivals area. A lost property service (tel: (01) 7007 29360) is on hand to deal with lost or found items.

Other

There is a 24-hour emergency medical service (tel: (01) 7007 22245) that can deal with ermergencies throughout the airport. Chapels are situated in the departure area of Check-in 1 and public area of Check-in 3.

Airport facilities

Conference and business

The VIP Terminal houses conference facilities, which can be booked via Vienna Airport Handling (tel: (01) 7007 26812). The NH Vienna Airport hotel (tel: (01) 701 510; www.nh-hotels.com) also has meeting facilities, as part of the Office Park complex.

There are 10 executive lounges within the departure areas. These offer facilities such as showers, refreshments and work space.

Disabled facilities

Disabled toilets, lifts and accessible telephones are available within the terminal. Wheelchair provision and assistance should be requested prior to arrival.

Disabled parking spaces are available in long-term car parks P3, P4 and C, as well as short-term car park K3. Half-price parking rates apply to those with the relevant permits or identification – contact the airport parking office (tel: (01) 7007 22886) for more information.

Passengers should notify the relevant airline at least 48 hours before their arrival at the airport.

Car parking

There are five car parks with space for more than 20,000 vehicles in total. The short-term K1 (for drop-off) and K3 (for pick-up) car parks are directly opposite the terminal. The long-term multistorey car parks P3 and P4 are connected to the terminals, while car park C is opposite the Office Park.

Car rental

Hire cars from the following companies can be pre-booked and collected at the airport: Avis, Buchbinder, Budget, Easymotion, Europcar, Hertz, Megadrive and Sixt.

Hotels

There is one on-site hotel at Vienna International Airport; this is located directly opposite the terminal building. A full range of major hotels is available in the city centre, some of which offer a shuttle service for arriving and departing guests. The stylish 500-room NH Vienna Airport Hotel is located directly opposite the terminal buildings at Vienna International Airport. The hotel has its own restaurant and provides event space for up to 600 delegates.

Hotel Das Reinisch

Boasting a restaurant and function rooms for up to 220 people, Hotel Das Reinisch is in nearby Schwechat, between the airport and city. The hotel has a choice of rooms or apartments that are well equipped for the business traveller.

A boutique hotel aimed towards the business traveller, Boutiquehotel Hein offers free Wi-Fi access, meeting space and ‘park and fly’ packages. There is also a fitness area and a sauna for those wishing to unwind before or after their flight. The hotel is located near the airport in Schwechat.
