A major expansion of the airport (including a second terminal) is due to be completed in 2016. Some flights are currently being diverted to the Sheikh Saad Terminal, the airport’s hub for private flights, due to overcrowding.
Airport information desks are located in the arrivals area (tel: 180 ext. 1523) on the ground floor of the terminal building, in the departures area (tel: 180 ext. 1522), and in the transit area.
Airport Road leads directly southwards from Kuwait City centre to the airport. Alternatively, take the southbound Riyad Road and merge onto King Faisal Motorway. Continue until the sixth ring road and take the signposted airport exit.
Bus: Buses to Kuwait City (route 501) depart from outside Arrivals. The journey time is about 30 minutes, and the fare is around KD0.25.
Taxi: Taxis (tel: 431 9829) are readily available; the taxi desk is located in Arrivals on the ground floor. The fare to the city centre is around KD5-6. It is recommended to agree this in advance with the driver.
Public telephones are located at various locations and there are two mobile telephone hire outlets. Internet access, fax and photocopying facilities are also available within the terminal.
There is a good choice of restaurants and cafés in the food court after the security area. Numerous options are also available in the Commercial Centre next to the arrivals hall.
There are two duty-free shops in the terminal, as well as a wide range of shops in the Commercial Centre adjacent to the terminal building.
Reports or enquiries of lost or found items can be made to the lost property office (tel: 2474 4256). An online form for lost items is accessible via the airport’s website.
There are two first-class lounges with fax and internet facilities. Internet and business services, as well as secretarial support, courier services and a conference room, are also available from the business centre at the on-site Safir Airport Hotel (tel: 2472 5000; www.safirhotels.com).
Short- and long-term parking, with a capacity of around 2,500 vehicles, is available at Kuwait International Airport. Among the options is a multistorey car park immediately adjacent to the Commercial Centre, and a car park located on street level next to Arrivals. Passengers can reach the departures hall using escalators, travelators and lifts to the first floor of the terminal building. A long-term car park is situated a short distance away from the terminal building. Valet parking is also available.
Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty and Sixt are represented at Kuwait International Airport. Desks for these operators are located in the arrivals area.
