Airport news: 

Malta International Airport authorities are currently developing a business centre adjacent to the terminal building, which is due for completion in 2012.

Information: 

Malta Tourist Information (tel: 2369 6073/4; www.visitmalta.com) is located in the ‘Welcomers' Hall’ and is open 24 hours a day. The Customer Services Centre (tel: 2124 9600) is located inside the check-in hall and is also open around the clock.

Driving directions: 

On leaving the airport, take the main road to Marsa, which eventually leads to Valletta. The city centre and airport are both clearly signposted.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Bus: Arriva (tel: 2122 2000; www.arriva.com.mt) express buses X4 and X5 depart regularly to Valletta from a bus stop outside the check-in hall. The journey time is around 25 minutes, and tickets allowing two-hour use of local buses are priced at €1.30, or €1.50 for the full day. Local buses 71 and 72 also connect Malta International Airport to Valetta. Other buses serving the airport include X1, which links the airport to the northern town of Ċirkewwa; X2, which serves St. Julian’s; and X3, which operates to Bugibba.

Shuttle: The Malta Transfer.com shuttle (www.maltatransfer.com) connects to various destinations in Malta. One-way fares range from €8 to €10. Ticket desks are located in the baggage reclaim area.

Taxi: There is a fixed-fare taxi service, operated by White Taxis (TLWA) (tel: 2182 3017; www.maltataxi.net) to all areas of Malta. The fare to Valetta from the airport is €15, and journey time is about 20 minutes. A taxi booth is located in the Welcomers' Hall, where prepaid tickets can be purchased.

Terminal facilities

Money: 

There is a Bank of Valletta branch with exchange facilities and an additional bureau de change in the arrivals area. ATMs are also available in Arrivals.

Communication: 

There is a post office in the check-in hall. Public telephones are available throughout, as is free Wi-Fi internet access. There are also fixed internet terminals in the café in the check-in hall.

Food: 

There are numerous cafés and restaurants at Malta International Airport, the majority of which can be found in the food court on level 1.

Shopping: 

There is a good choice of tax-free (for non-EU passengers), gift and general service shops at Malta International Airport, notably in the departures area.

Luggage: 

A left-luggage service is available 24-hours a day (tel: 2369 6012), as is a luggage secure-wrapping service. A lost and found service is available at the customer services desks in the check-in hall and in the Schengen departures area (tel: 2369 6438 or 6020).

Other: 

There is a chapel on site.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

Conference facilities are available in the area between Arrivals and Departures, with a capacity of up to 40 delegates (tel: 2369 6514). The members-only La Valette executive lounge (tel: 2369 6292) in Departures, immediately after security control, offers a range of VIP services, including 'meet and greet' and chauffeur-driven cars.

Disabled facilities: 

The terminal has wheelchair-accessible toilets, ramps and low-level payphones. Reserved parking spaces are available in the car park. Assistance can be arranged in advance (tel: 2369 6333).

Car parking: 

There are spaces for 650 cars in the car park, which is linked to the main terminal by a walkway (tel: 2369 6475). The car park offers both short-term and long-term parking rates; the first 10 minutes of parking is free.

Car rental: 

Car hire desks are located in the ‘Welcomers' Hall’ and companies represented at the airport include Avis, Budget, Europcar, First, Hertz, Sixt and Thrifty.

Airport hotels

There are no on-site hotels at Malta International Airport; the nearest are around 10km (6 miles) away, but the necessary information and booking facilities for all of Malta’s hotels can be obtained from the Tourist Information Office (tel: 2369 6073/4) inside the Welcomers’ Hall.
