In a joint venture between the Tanzanian government and China, the airport is to be redeveloped and modernised with a new third terminal, making it East Africa's largest.

Transfer between terminals

There are no shuttle services, but taxis are available to ferry passengers between the two terminals. Terminal 1 caters for general aviation and charter services, while Terminal 2 houses international airlines and airlines operating regional and scheduled flights.

Driving directions

The airport access road is reached from Nyerere Road (formerly known as Pugu Road), which connects to central Dar es Salaam to the northeast.

Bus: City buses are easily accessed from Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport, with stops located 500m (600 yards) from the terminal. Services run 24 hours a day and the journey to the centre takes around 40 minutes.
