Driving directions:

John Wayne Airport can be reached from the ‘MacArthur Boulevard’ exit from Interstate 405 (southbound), which leads from central Los Angeles, Long Beach and Santa Monica. From East Los Angeles, take Interstate 5 southbound and turn onto SR55 (southbound), which has a dedicated exit to the airport.

Public transport road:

Bus: Buses leave from the Ground Transportation Centre outside the lower level of the terminal. Southern California Gray Line (tel: (714) 978 8855 or 1 800 828 6699 in the USA; graylineanaheim.com) connects to Anaheim and Disneyland. In addition to this, Orange County Transportation Authority (tel: (714) 636 7433; www.octa.net) runs bus 76 from Huntington Beach and Newport Beach via Talbert Avenue/MacArthur Boulevard. Bus 212 operates from Irvine to San Juan Capistrano via the 405 freeway.

Shuttle: Numerous shuttle companies operate from John Wayne Airport’s Ground Transportation Centre, including Super Shuttle (tel: 1 800 258 3826 in the USA; www.supershuttle.com). The iShuttle (tel: (949) 724 6287; www.irvineshuttle.net) links the airport with Tustin Railway Station.

Taxi: John Wayne Airport Yellow Cab Service (tel: 1 800 535 2211 in the USA) has taxis seating up to five people and vans seating up to seven. Fares are metered, although flat rates to destinations may be provided upon request. Taxis depart from a rank at the Ground Transportation Centre.

Money:

ATMs can be found in the baggage reclaim area, and on the general lower (public area) and upper levels (departures area) of the terminal building, near gates 7 and 8 in Terminal A and gates 9 and 10 in Terminal B. There are no currency exchange facilities at the airport.

Food:

There are numerous fast-food outlets, cafés, bars and restaurants at John Wayne Airport. The new Marketplace area (near gates 13 and 14) offers a good range of options, from frozen yoghurt to Chinese cuisine. Other places to eat at the airport include a 1940s-style burger joint and a wine bar.

Shopping:

Shops and newsagents are located on the upper level (Departures). Among the shops is a retailer selling electronic items, confectioners, surf clothing shop and various designer outlets.

Luggage:

There is no dedicated business centre at John Wayne Airport, but basic conference and business facilities are available at the United Airlines Red Carpet Club (tel: (949) 252 5736) and the American Airlines Admirals Club (tel: (949) 852 5470) membership-only lounges near gates 8 and 9. Telephones can be found at various points within the airport. Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the terminal building. There no postboxes in the terminal complex.

Disabled facilities:

Flight information monitors display visual pages; the airport operator (tel: (949) 252 5200) can also assist with services for disabled travellers. TDD telephones and white courtesy phones are situated throughout the terminal.

In terms of mobility, wheelchair assistance is available on request; passengers are advised to contact their airline in advance. Lifts are located near the baggage reclaim escalator and close to gates 1A and 14A. Dedicated disabled parking spaces are available in all car parks, while a loading bay is situated on the Arrivals and Departures levels. Orange County Transportation Authority buses are suitable for disabled travellers.

 

Car parking:

Car parks A1, A2, B2 and C (tel: (949) 252 5200) are located next to the terminal; these offer both short- and long-term rates. Cheaper long-term car parking is available at the Main Street car park (located between Red Hill Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard), from which courtesy shuttles transport passengers to/from the Main Street car park. Curbside valet parking (tel: 949) 752 5558) is available on the upper level roadway.

Car rental:

Car hire companies at John Wayne Airport include: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty, with desks on the lower level (Arrivals). Numerous local operators are located off-site.
