Amtrak (www.amtrak.com) rail service passes through Virginia on two main north-south routes, linking New Orleans (via Atlanta and Charlottesville) and Miami (via Richmond) with Washington, DC and New York City. A couple of services (originating in Newport News) continue on to Boston.
