Currency information

Australian and Tuvaluan currency are both in use, but transactions over A$1 are always conducted in Australian Dollars. For details of Australian Dollar denominations and exchange rates, see the Australia section.

Tuvaluan Dollar (TVD; symbol TV$) = 100 cents. Coins are in denominations of TV$1, and 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 cents.

Credit cards

Credit cards are not accepted, but MasterCard may be used at the National Bank of Tuvalu for cash advances.

Travellers cheques

Australian Dollars are recommended.

Banking hours

Mon-Thurs 0930-1300, Fri 0830-1200.

Currency restrictions

There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency.

Tuvalu duty free

Overview

The following items may be imported into Tuvalu by visitors over the age of 18 without incurring customs duty:

• 200 cigarettes.
• 1L of spirits or wine.

Banned Imports

Pornography, narcotics, arms and ammunition. You must declare all plant and animal products.
