Airport news: 

The huge new Terminal 3 opened for commercial operation in the spring of 2009, while the existing Terminal 2 is currently closed for renovation. A fourth terminal (to serve seasonal traffic) is also under construction, as is a 5-star hotel, which is due to open on the site in March 2012. An additional runway is also at an advanced stage. A new Metro line linking the airport with the city is also under construction.

Information: 

Information desks are located in all terminals, in the Arrivals and Departures halls and in the transit hall. Flight information (tel: (02) 634 8566) is available 24 hours a day. Tourist police (tel: (02) 265 2313, Terminal 1, or 265 2269, Terminal 2) within the terminals can also provide information.

Driving directions: 

The airport can be reached from Cairo city centre, across the 6th October Bridge, via Salah Salem Road which leads to Heliopolis. The airport and Heliopolis are well signposted from the city centre. The airport is located off the Al-Orouba main road, and can now be reached via a new link road from the Cairo Ring Road.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Bus: A recently introduced shuttle bus service (tel: (02) 265 3937) connects the airport with Heliopolis and central Cairo (journey time is around 45 minutes). It operates at half-hourly intervals. Public buses also run to a number of destinations, and intercity connections link the airport with Alexandria.

Taxi: Taxis are available from the airport to central Cairo (journey time: 30 minutes). They leave from outside the Arrivals hall; haggling is recommended.
 

Terminal facilities

Money: 

The airport has a bank and ATMs; 24-hour bureaux de change and post offices are located in the Departures hall in all terminals. The post office is open 24 hours a day.

Food: 

There are numerous restaurants at the airport. Bars are located in the Departures halls of both terminals and are open 24 hours.

Shopping: 

Many shops, including gift shops, clothes shops, bookshops and newsagents, are located in the Departures halls in both terminals and in the new transit hall. Duty-free shops are available in all terminals.

Luggage: 

Baggage trolleys and porters are available. Left-luggage facilities can be found in both terminals.

Other: 

A pharmacy is located in Departures in all terminals.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

There is a business centre in Terminal 1 connected to the new transit hall by an escalator and providing computer and fax services. Business facilities and meeting rooms are also available in the Novotel Cairo Airport Hotel (tel: (02) 2291 8520; www.novotel.com). There is a range of internationally themed VIP lounges in the terminals. Computer and fax machines are available, as is Wireless Internet access (free in Terminal 1).

Disabled facilities: 

Wheelchairs are available on request and there are disabled toilets. Disabled passengers should contact their airline for assistance. There are no reserved car parking spaces for disabled passengers.

Car parking: 

There are short- and long-term parking facilities outside all terminals.

Car rental: 

Car hire companies represented at the airport include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, J Car and Thrifty.

Airport hotels

There are a number of hotels near Cairo International Airport. Complimentary shuttle buses run from the airport to all major hotels

Concorde El Salam

The Concorde El Salam hotel is a ten-minute drive from Cairo International Airport in the suburb of Helipolis. The hotel has two swimming pools, sport and leisure activities, a business centre and a casino and cinema complex.

Le Meridien Heliopolis has six meeting rooms seating up to 450 people as well as a fitness centre, spa and four restaurants. The hotel provides a shuttle service to/from the airport (call in advance).

The 4-star Novotel Cairo Airport Hotel is located a short distance from Cairo International Airport and provides a shuttle bus service to/from the terminals. Hotel facilities include an outdoor pool, three meeting rooms and a child's play area.
