Hanover Airport completed major expansion of its terminals and passenger facilities in 2008. It is now working on increasing its cargo capacity.
The Airport Service Centre (tel: (0511) 9770), in Arrivals level B, provides information, help with transport and parking, and a variety of other services.
The terminals are situated close together and are easily accessible on foot.
From Hanover city centre, follow the signs; join the A7 or the A2, then Autobahn A352 to the Langenhagen exit for the airport.
Public Transport
Rail: S-Bahn suburban trains (line S5) depart from the airport outside Terminal C to the central railway station (journey time: 15 minutes). Information is available from the Airport Service Centre (tel: (0511) 9770) and from GVH (tel: (0511) 16680; www.uestra.de).
Bus: Bus 470 (tel: (0511) 16680; www.uestra.de) connects the airport with Langenhagen; tram 1 runs between Langenhagen and the main railway station.
Taxi: Taxi stands (tel: (0511) 724 9230) are located at the entrance of the Arrivals terminal (journey time to central Hanover: 20 minutes). Price starts at €22. A door-to-door shuttle service is offered by Flughafen Transfer Hannover (tel: (0511) 977 2240; www.fthaj.de), available daily 24 hours.
Terminal facilities
Facilities include banks, bureaux de change, a post office and ATMs. There is an internet café on the Departures level C.
There are numerous restaurants, cafés and bars.
Shops include duty-free for travellers leaving the EU, a tobacconists, gift and fashion shops of various types, a supermarket, clothing accessories shop and a perfumery. Most shops are located on the departures level of the Airport Plaza between terminals A and B, however there are other outlets within Terminal C and in the waiting lounges.
Left-luggage and lost property enquiries are handled by the Airport Service Centre (tel: (0511) 9770), on the Arrivals level B.
A children’s play area is located on the Departures level C. There is also a pharmacy, a hairdresser and the possibility to beek sightseeing flights over Hanover.
Airport facilities
A number of event spaces are available within the airport complex, including Skylight, on the airport's fifth floor overlooking the apron, a number of lounges, restaurants and bars, and a hall with capacity for up to 1,000 (tel: (0511) 977 1456).
Conference and business facilities are also available at the Maritim Airport Hotel Hannover (tel: (0511) 97370; www.maritim.de), and the Holiday Inn Hannover Airport (tel: (0511) 77070; www.holidayinn.com), both of which are located on site. Nearby, the Achat Hotel Airport-Hannover (tel: (0511) 771 9610; www.achat-hotels.com) also offers extensive facilities for gatherings of up to 450. A VIP service (tel: (0511) 977 1579) is available at the airport.
Wheelchair transportation for disabled passengers is available on request from the Airport Service Centre (tel: (0511) 9770); wheelchairs can be obtained from airline ticket counters and passengers should inform the airline in advance of any special needs. Lifts for wheelchairs are located throughout. There are also disabled toilets, which are located in the area between the terminals. Accessible public telephones are available. In parking garages P1 and P2, there are numerous parking spaces reserved for disabled travellers.
There are multi-storey car parks at the airport, with short-term parking located directly opposite Terminals A and B. Long-term rates are available in Parkhaus Ost, Parkhaus Nord, P3 and the perimeter parking area; a free, daily shuttle bus service to the terminals is available 24 hours a day. Executive parking is available in car park P1 and must be reserved in advance. A further long-term car park, P10, is available further from the terminals during the summer months, and is aimed at leisure travellers. Avis, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt are represented at the airport, with offices located in the Car Hire Centre on the Arrivals level between Terminals A and B.
Airport hotels
The 3-star Best Western Nordic Hotel Ambiente is a 10-minute drive from Hamburg Airport and is also close to the city centre.
Holiday Inn Hannover Airport is located at the airport and provides a free shuttle service to the nearby terminal buildings. The hotel offers meeting space, an on-site restaurant, as well as business and fitness centres.
The 500-plus room Maritim Airport Hotel Hannover is directly linked to Hanover Airport. The hotel offers extensive leisure facilities as well as meeting and events spaces. On-site dining is also available.
