Airport news:

The satellite building at klia2 will be combined with the main building into one terminal, allowing the airport to handle up to 97.5 million passengers a year with four runways and two mega-terminals by 2020.

Information:

There are airport information counters strategically located throughout KLIA and klia2. Touch-screen information kiosks are also available. Tourism Malaysia has a visitor centre open 24 hours a day on the third floor of the main terminal building in KLIA (tel: +603 8776 5651).

Driving directions:

The North-South Central Link Expressway (E6) is the primary access road for the airport. From the city centre, take the southbound E20, and then turn right onto Lingkaran Putrajaya. Follow this road onto the southbound E6, which leads directly to the airport. The journey from the city centre takes 45 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes depending on traffic.

Transfer between terminals:

Transfer between KLIA and klia2 takes 1-10 minutes depending on the transport. The KLIA Aerotrain takes less than 2 minutes and is free of charge. The shuttle bus is also free of charge and takes 10 minutes. The Airport Liner bus costs RM 2.50 and takes 10 minutes, while the Express Rail link costs RM 2.00 and takes 4 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Bus: Express buses from the airport to KL Sentral station are available (fare: RM10), while local buses are also available to Nilai (fare: RM3) and Banting (fare: RM3.50). The express to KL Sentral leaves from the bus station on the ground floor of Block C, in the short-term car park.

Taxi: Taxis are available from outside the arrivals area. Passengers should buy a coupon at the taxi counters in the arrivals area, and are advised not to use taxis offered by illegal operators.

Public transport rail:

Rail: KLIA Ekspres (tel: +603 2267 8000; www.KLIAekspres.com) is the direct non-stop express rail service between the airport and KL City Air Terminal (KLCAT) at Kuala Lumpur's Central Station (journey time: 30 minutes; fare: RM55). KLIA Transit is another high-speed commuter train between the airport and KLCAT, but these trains stop at several intermediate stations along the route (journey time: 40 minutes; fare: RM55).

Money:

There are bureaux de change and ATMs dotted throughout KLIA and klia2. CIMB Bank is located at the Departure level of the Main Terminal Building.

Food:

There is a good selection of places to eat at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In particular, the Satellite Building boasts a large choice, with cafés and restaurants spread between its various concourses.

Shopping:

Visitors here can choose from a range of shops, including gift retailers, bookshops, fashion boutiques and electronics shops. Duty-free shopping is available in the Satellite Building and the Main Terminal.

Luggage:

Luggage lockers and trolleys are available for hire. For issues concerning lost property (tel: +603 8776 4312), travellers should go to the Lost and Found Centre in the Main Terminal Building of KLIA or the left luggage services in the Domestic Arrival Hall on level 2 of klia2. A baggage wrapping service also operates in the departures hall of the main building.

Other:

Other facilities available at Kuala Lumpur International Airport include nurseries, baby changing facilities and a play area for children. A 24-hour clinic is on hand to deal with medical enquiries, while pharmacies can assist with minor medical issues. There is a quiet/prayer room in the departures area of the Main Terminal of KLIA, and numerous Muslim prayer rooms in both terminals. Additionally, a fitness centre with showers, sauna and spa can be found in the on-site Sama Sama Express Hotels (tel: +603 8787 4848; www.samasamaexpress.com) in both KLIA (+603 8787 4848) and klia2 (+603 8775 6600).

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

The Plaza Premium Lounge (tel: +603 8787 2323; www.plaza-ppl.com) is equipped with telephone, fax, internet and videoconferencing facilities, as well as postal and secretarial services – other lounges have more basic facilities. Additionally, the on-site Sama Sama Express Hotels in both KLIA and klia2 (tel: +603 8787 4848, +603 8775 6600; www.samasamaexpress.com) offer high-speed internet access and telephones.

Away from the terminals, the 5-star Sama Sama Hotel (tel: +603 8787 3333; www.samasamahotels.com) houses a wide range of meeting and events facilities.

Communication Facilities:

Free Wi-Fi internet access (for up to three hours) is available throughout Kuala Lumpur International Airport. In addition, there are fixed internet kiosks in several locations. Public telephones can be found in both terminals. A post office is located in the departures area of the Main Terminal.

Disabled facilities:

Facilities for the physically disabled at Kuala Lumpur International Airport include ramps, lifts, wheelchair-accessible toilets and adapted telephones. Reserved car parking spaces are available on level 2 in the covered short-term car park. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact their airline at least 48 hours before travelling.

In klia2, every part of the terminal is accessible by wheelchair. There is also a buggy service, as well as Braille in elevators and tactile paving.

Car parking:

There are two main car parks at KLIA with a total of 11, 442 parking spaces.

Short-term covered car parks are in blocks B, C and D. There is also ‘preferred parking’ available on level 2 in blocks B and C which provides the easiest access to the terminal building at KLIA.

At klia2, there is a multi-storey car park with 6,490 parking bays, including motorcycle bays. Disabled-driver parking bays are available on every level of blocks A and B.

Car rental:

Car hire operators: Avis, Hertz, Insas, Kasina Baru, Mayflower, Orix and Pantas are represented at the airport, with desks in the arrivals area.
