Airport news: 

A new terminal building opened in July 2011, which is used solely for business and private flights.

Information: 

Information desks are located before passport control in Schiphol Plaza; in Arrivals Halls 2 and 3; and behind passport control in Lounges 2 and 3. Eight transfer desks, situated on the piers, offer information on transfers and connecting flights. Touch screen kiosks, providing airport information, are located throughout the terminal. The Customer Contact Centre (tel: (020) 794 0800) can provide further information.

The Holland Tourism Information office (tel: (020) 201 8800) is situated in Arrivals, providing tourist information and an accommodation reservation service.

Driving directions: 

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is situated off the A4 motorway, which links Amsterdam to The Hague. The exit to the airport is clearly signposted.

Public Transport

Public transport rail: 

Rail: There is a railway station in the terminal's central hall, under Schiphol Plaza; direct trains run to Amsterdam Centraal Station (journey time: 15 minutes; fare: €3.80). Night trains serve Utrecht, Amsterdam Centraal Station, Leiden, The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam. The reservation-only, high-speed Thalys train serves major European cities. Other international services run to Berlin, Hannover and Leipzig. Ticket machines and desks are located in Arrivals Halls 1,2 and 3, and at Schiphol Plaza. Rail information is available from Nederlandse Spoorwegen (tel: 0900 202 1163; www.ns.nl).

Public transport road: 

Bus: Public buses (tel: 0900 9292) run regularly to Amsterdam and other cities. Buses 197 and 370 (interliner express service) run to Amsterdam city centre and Amsterdam Zuid. Buses depart from platform A7 in front of Arrivals Hall 2. Full details of routes can be found on the airport website.

Shuttles: Many hotels offer a free airport shuttle service to guests. The Connexxion Schiphol Hotel Service (tel: (038) 339 4771; www.airporthotelshuttle.nl) is a daily hotel shuttle service running from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to more than 55 hotels in and around Amsterdam; purchase tickets at the Connexxion desk in Arrivals Hall 2.

Taxi: Schiphol Travel Taxis are available from outside Schiphol Plaza. The journey to central Amsterdam is approximately 15 minutes. Taxis can be booked in advance on the airport's website.

Terminal facilities

Money: 

There are numerous banks, ATMs, currency exchange machines and bureaux de change kiosks at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Communication: 

There is a post office in Lounge 2. Mobile telephone hire is available at the Telecom Rentcenter in Schiphol Plaza. Multiphone multimedia telephone units, which can be used for telephoning, internet access and an SMS service, are situated throughout the airport. Free wireless internet access is also available throughout the terminal building.

Food: 

There are numerous bars, cafés and restaurants at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. These are situated throughout the terminal building, both landside and airside.

Shopping: 

There are numerous shops at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, including duty-free and a 24-hour supermarket at Schiphol Plaza (before security) and on both sides of immigration. A duty-free pre-order and collection service is available online.

Luggage: 

Seal & Go (tel: (0252) 629 323), at various locations in Departure Halls 2 and 3, seals luggage (irrespective of size) within one minute. Lockers are situated throughout the terminal. A left-luggage service (tel: (020) 795 2443) is open daily in the basement between Arrivals Halls 1 and 2. There are free trolleys and a porter service (tel: (020) 601 2303) is available on request. There is a lost and found office (tel: (020) 794 0800).

Other: 

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has a medical centre, 24-hour emergency medical services (tel: (020) 649 2566) and a pharmacy. There is a fully equipped baby room and several play areas on Holland Boulevard; baby-change facilities are provided in the toilets. Shower facilities can be found at the Hotel Mercure Schiphol Terminal Hotel (tel: (020) 604 1339; www.hotelopschiphol.nl), available 24 hours a day. A massage parlour, a hairdresser, casino and prayer room are also available.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

The Schiphol Business Centre hires out offices equipped with fax, PC and telephone facilities, as well as a secretarial service if required. There is also a conference room with telecommunication facilities. The Communications Centre provides passengers with internet facilities, mini-offices, a post office and a telephone centre with full telecommunication facilities. The Regus Skyport Schiphol business centre (tel: (020) 654 1600) hires out meeting rooms accommodating between two and 22 delegates, which can be reached directly from both Arrivals and Departures. The Exchange Avenue conference centre (tel: (020) 603 4607) offers six meeting rooms with capacity for up to 80 delegates. Computers, fax machines and mobile telephones can be hired from Telecom Rentcentre in Schiphol Plaza. Major airlines have executive lounges, which offer some business facilities.

Disabled facilities: 

Facilities for the disabled include automatic doors, toilets, and lifts between all floors of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (including train platforms). Wheelchairs are available for visitors, but passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel. ACompany (tel: (020) 601 5018) provides an electrocar service, with shuttles running between piers D, E, F and G and Arrivals. Disabled parking is available in car parks P1, P2 and P3. A bus is available on request from car park P3 to take disabled passengers to the terminal; passengers requiring this service should phone at least 24 hours in advance (tel: (020) 405 7900).

Car parking: 

Two short-term car parks (P1 and P2) are connected to the terminal and Schiphol Plaza by covered walkways. Long-term parking is available in an open-air car park (P3), situated 4km (2.5 miles) from the terminal. A free 24-hour shuttle bus links P3 with the terminal. A VIP valet service is also available; reservations are required (tel: (020) 406 7890).

Car rental: 

Car hire companies at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol include: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt. Car hire desks for these operators are located in Schiphol Plaza.

Airport hotels

The Hotel Mercure Schiphol Terminal Hotel is located within the terminal building, beyond customs. There are a number of hotels at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which are either connected via covered walkways or by shuttle bus. Selected hotels can be booked online via the airport website, and there is a hotel booking desk in the baggage reclaim area.

Best Western Amsterdam Airport

The 4-star Best Western Amsterdam Airport is 5km (3 miles) from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and is linked to the terminal via a shuttle service. The hotel has a swimming pool, restaurant and a fitness area.
