The airport is currently undergoing major expansion, including the addition of new terminals, construction of a high-speed rail link from Jeddah, runway upgrades, and an increase in capacity to 80 million passengers annually. The whole project is due to be completed in 2014.

From central Jeddah, head north along Al Madinah Al Munawarah Road – the airport is reached in around 20 minutes by car.
