Major expansion works will increase the airport's capacity to 43 million annual passengers by 2025. Among the many ongoing projects is the Haramain Railway Station at the airport. The Makkah-Medina high speed rail will link Medina with Mecca, the King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah starting March 2018.
