Barcelona Airport Guide (BCN)
Here you'll find essential information on Barcelona Airport, including contact details, airport transfer facts, details of airport facilities, and how to get there.
Terminal 2 is undergoing extensive renovation, leading to some changes in service arrangements. Check the official airport website for details of the current situation.
Airport information desks can be found throughout the airport (tel: 90 240 4704), at eight locations in Terminal 1 and five points in Terminal 2 (A and B). Tourist information desks are located in Terminal 1 (tel: 93 378 8175) and Terminal 2A and 2B (tel: 93 378 8149); there is also a hotel information point in Terminal 2B.
A pedestrian walkway links the A, B and C areas of Terminal 2. A shuttle bus operates between Terminals 1 and 2.
From Barcelona city centre, take the Barcelona ring road, and turn off at the Barcelona-Castelldefels C-31 motorway (which also connects with the Barcelona-Sitges C-32 motorway). From here, turn off at exit 192 to join the airport access road.
Public Transport
Rail: RENFE (tel: 902 320 320; www.renfe.com) line R2 suburban train links Barcelona Airport with the city centre, Estació de Franςa and intermediate stops (journey time: 38 minutes; fare: €3.25). The airport railway station is linked to Terminal 2 by a walkway. Free shuttle buses run from Terminal 1 to this station.
Bus: There is an Aerobús (tel: 90 210 0104; www.aerobusbcn.com) service to Plaça de Catalunya, departing from in front of the terminals. Local AMB (tel: 010 (in Spain); www.emt-amb.com) buses 46, L77 and N17 depart from Terminals 1, 2B and 2C and terminate in various destinations in central Barcelona (journey time: 45 minutes; fare: €5.50). There is also a night bus operating at 20-minute intervals from 2200-0500.
Taxi: Taxi ranks are located outside the terminals (journey time: 25-35 minutes; fare: from €20). For more information call: 93 223 5151, extension 2158.
Terminal facilities
Bank branches can be found in Terminals 1 and 2B. ATMs and currency exchange services are available throughout Barcelona Airport.
There is a post office on the ground floor of Terminal 2B. Paid-for Wi-Fi hotspots are available at various locations throughout the terminals.
There are restaurants, cafés and bars in the departure and arrival areas of both terminals. Choices range from fast-food outlets to sit-down restaurants.
There is a wide range of shops in both terminals, which include bookshops, newsagents, fashion outlets and retailers selling branded Barcelona Football Club goods. Duty-free shopping (for passengers leaving the EU) is available in both terminals.
A lost property service (tel: 93 259 6440) is available in Terminal 1. Several other lost and found offices are located throughout the airport, operated by the various ground handlers. A left-luggage office is situated in the Terminal 1 lobby area.
Other facilities at Barcelona Airport include a pharmacy, a 24-hour medical service, tour operators and travel agents, and children's play areas.
Airport facilities
The Air Meetings Business Centre (tel: 90 250 8550; www.bcn-airmeetings.com) in Terminal 1 contains boardrooms, meeting rooms and a rest area with bedrooms and gym facilities. There are two meeting rooms available for hire (tel: 93 297 1101) in Terminal 2B with telephone, fax, internet and audiovisual equipment. VIP lounges are available in Departures (post-security) in Terminals 1, 2A and 2B. Meeting facilities are also available at the on-site Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel (tel: 93 378 3200; www.marriott.com).
Barcelona Airport has lifts, escalators, lowered telephones, adapted toilets and ramps. Reserved parking spaces are available for disabled travellers in the airport car parks.
There are public car parks with space for around 20,000 cars at Barcelona Airport. Short-stay parking areas are located directly in front of each terminal; the PA and PC car parks are directly connected to Terminal 2 via air-bridges. The long-stay car park is a short distance from both terminals and is linked via a shuttle bus service. VIP parking (tel: 93 297 1381), which includes a secured parking area and collection outside the terminals, is also available.
Car hire companies at Barcelona Airport include: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Atesa and Sixt. All these operators have desks in both terminals.
Airport hotels
The closest hotel to the terminals at Barcelona Airport, the 205-room Hotel Tryp Barcelona Airport has extensive business facilities (including seven conference rooms), a fitness centre and a snack bar. Free transportation to/from the airport is provided.
The Renaissance Barcelona Airport Hotel is within walking distance of the terminals at Barcelona Airport, but a complimentary airport shuttle service is also offered. Hotel facilities include business and fitness centres, an on-site restaurant and a swimming pool.
