Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport (IATA: GRX, ICAO: LEGR) is the airport serving the provinces of Granada and Jaén in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. Located approximately 17 kilometres west of Granada city centre near the towns of Chauchina and Santa Fe, it handled approximately 1.1 million passengers in 2024, with continued year-on-year growth into 2025. The airport takes its full name from Federico García Lorca, the poet and playwright born in the village of Fuente Vaqueros in the province of Granada in 1898, and is operated by Aena as part of the national airport network.

The airport serves as the primary entry point for visitors to Granada, one of Andalusia's most significant cultural destinations and home to the Alhambra, one of the most visited monuments in Spain. It also provides air access to Jaén, located some 106 kilometres to the north, and to the wider hinterland including the Sierra Nevada ski resort, the Alpujarras valley and the coastal resorts of the Costa Tropical. The airport is the fifth-most-used in Andalusia and has received investment in infrastructure upgrades in recent years to improve passenger capacity and processing efficiency.

Traffic at GRX is predominantly domestic, with Barcelona and Madrid together accounting for around half of all monthly arrivals. International connections are limited but include services to Amsterdam operated by Transavia and to Paris by seasonal operators. Vueling and Iberia (via Air Nostrum) are the dominant airlines, with Volotea operating selected additional routes.

Layout

GRX operates from a single, compact terminal building that makes navigation straightforward. All services are on the ground floor, with the departures and arrivals areas in close proximity. Check-in desks and the departures area, including security and boarding gates, are in the main hall. The baggage claim and arrivals exit are in the adjacent arrivals area. The simplicity of the layout means that even first-time users rarely need more than a few minutes to orient themselves. The airside boarding area, accessed after security, contains the departure gates as well as a duty-free shop, cafés and the VIP lounge.

Check-In

All airlines check in from the main ground-floor hall. The airport is compact and processes passenger volumes relatively quickly. Arriving at least 90 minutes before departure is generally sufficient for domestic flights; two hours is advisable for international services. Self-service kiosks are available for applicable airlines.

Driving directions:

The airport is accessed via the A-92 autovía, the main dual-carriageway linking Granada with Seville. From the city centre, the journey takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic. The A-92 also provides a direct route westward to Antequera and onward connections to Málaga, Seville and Córdoba. Passengers arriving by car from Jaén can take the A-44 south to Granada and then west on the A-92 to the airport.

Bus: 

The Alsa bus service operates the primary public transport connection between the airport and Granada city centre. Buses typically depart from outside the terminal approximately 30 minutes after the scheduled arrival of each incoming flight and run to Granada city centre and bus station. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes and the fare is in the region of €3 (2026). Schedules are tied to flight arrivals rather than to fixed timetable intervals, so departure times vary; passengers should check the current timetable at the airport or via the Alsa website before travel.

Taxi: 

Taxis are available from the rank outside the terminal. The journey to Granada city centre takes approximately 20 minutes and costs in the region of €20 to €30, depending on traffic and the time of travel. Pre-booked private transfers are a popular option for visitors arriving late or with significant luggage.

The Garden, a café-restaurant, serves meals, snacks and drinks throughout the airport's operating hours. Shopping:

The airside area has a Granada Duty Free shop offering perfumes, cosmetics, spirits, tobacco and local food products. A Point shop provides newspapers, books, magazines and travel accessories.

Luggage:

Luggage trolleys are available in front of the terminal, and in Arrivals. The Lost Property Office (tel: +34 958 245 249) is located in Arrivals.

A VIP lounge is available in the airside boarding area, accessible through a day-pass purchase via the Aena website, Priority Pass, DragonPass or eligible airline programmes. The lounge offers comfortable seating, complimentary beverages, free Wi-Fi, newspapers and charging facilities.
