Gothenburg International Film Festival
Attracting a mix of directors, filmmakers, critics, producers and film fanatics, this annual event presents a great selection of non-mainstream films from around the world. Now over a week long, the festival also includes seminars and workshops, as well as the popular opening- and closing-night parties. The event has since grown to become the biggest public film festival in Scandinavia and screens hundreds of films and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors.

Gothenburg Boat Show
The huge Gothenburg Boat Show takes over two floors of the Swedish Exhibition Centre with stalls flaunting the latest super yachts, motorboats, canoes, kayaks and inflatables. In keeping with the aquatic-based theme, there will be diving, fishing and water sports advisors onsite, as well as a host of activities from radio-controlled boats and trial pools to a Treasure Island fun zone for children.

Gothenburg Basketball Festival
Each year, some thousand fresh-faced Michael Jordans from a few countries make their way to Gothenburg for the world’s largest youth basketball tournament. Played on multiple courts across the city, this contest has been running for over three decades.

Gothenburg International Book Fair
The biggest event of its kind in Scandinavia, the annual Gothenburg International Book Fair attracts a mix of authors, publishers, agents, teachers, librarians and book lovers. Primarily a networking event for the publishing industry, the fair is nonetheless a delight for any literary enthusiast and provides a great opportunity to browse through the many books on display, including works by established writers as well as titles by new and emerging talents. There are also a number of seminars and readings led by some the world's best-loved authors.
