Ongoing security concerns at the airport has caused numerous airlines to suspend services to Sharm el-Sheikh as of 2016. A long-planned third terminal, scheduled to become operational in 2015, is yet to open.

Driving directions:

Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport is directly off the main El-Salam highway that runs northeast from central Sharm el-Sheikh. The total drive time from the city centre to the airport is approximately 15 minutes.

Public Transport

Public transport road:

Most arriving passengers transfer directly to their accommodation using transport arranged by their tour operator or hotel. Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport is not particularly geared to the independent traveller and public transport is limited.

Shuttle:Public minibuses operate from outside Arrivals into Sharm el-Sheikh (journey time: 15 minutes) – but these generally don't depart until they are full. Expect to haggle over the fare.

Taxi:Regular taxis and tourist taxis (which charge double the fare) operate from Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. The official regular taxi charges around E£40, but it's essential to negotiate with the driver before departing.

Terminal facilities

Money:

Banking and currency exchange facilities are located within the terminals, and several ATMs are dotted throughout.

Food:

Several cafés, restaurants and snack bars serving both local and international food can be found at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport.

Shopping:

There are numerous shops at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, including a newsagent/bookstore, souvenir retailers and jewellery shops. Duty-free shopping is also available. The traditional style bazaars here are excellent places to look for gifts before a flight home.

Luggage:

A cloakroom is available at the airport where passengers are able to store luggage for a short period. A lost and found office (tel: +20 69 360 1140) is also available, located in the arrival area.

Airport facilities

Conference and business:

There are currently no conference facilities within Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. However, such services are available at several large nearby hotels, including the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh (tel: +20 69 360 3555; www.coralsearesorts.eu) located roughly 8km (5 miles) from the airport.

Communication Facilities:

Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. Several payphones for both domestic and international calls are also available.

Disabled facilities:

Facilities for disabled travellers are basic. Wheelchairs are available from the airline counters. Any passengers who may require additional assistance are advised to contact both the airport (tel: +20 69 360 1140) and their airline before travelling.

Car parking:

Extensive short- and long-term secured parking is available outside both terminals.

Car rental:

Car hire operators Hertz and Thrifty are represented at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, along with a couple of local outfits. Other providers operate from resort hotels.
