A third terminal is currently under construction, and due for completion during 2012 – a second runway is also planned to enter service at the same time.

There are no information desks at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, but tour operator representatives are available for arriving holidaymakers.

Driving directions: 

Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport is directly off the main El-Salam highway that runs directly into Sharm el-Sheikh in a south-westerly direction.

Public Transport

Public transport road: 

Most arriving passengers will be transferred directly to their accommodation using transport arranged by their tour operator or hotel. Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport is not particularly geared to the independent traveller and public transport is limited.

Shuttle: Public minibuses operate from outside Arrivals into Sharm el -Sheikh (journey time: 20 minutes), but these generally don't depart until they are full. Expect to haggle over the fare.

Taxi: Regular taxis and tourist taxis (which charge double the fare) operate from Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. The official regular taxi charges around E£40, but again, negotiation is essential to agree the fare before departing.

Banking and currency exchange facilities are available.

Food: 

There are several restaurants and snack bars at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport.

Shopping: 

There are various shops at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport, including a newsagent/bookstore, souvenir retailers and jewellery shops. Duty-free shopping is also available.

Airport facilities

Conference and business: 

There are no business facilities at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. Meeting facilities can be found at some of Sharm el-Sheikh's hotels.

Disabled facilities: 

Facilities for disabled travellers are basic. Wheelchairs are available from the airline counters. Travellers requiring assistance should contact their airline prior to departure.

Car parking: 

Short- and long-term secured parking is available outside both terminals.

Car rental: 

Thrifty is represented at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. Other providers operate from resort hotels.

There are no hotels at Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport. All major accommodation options are a 10-minute drive away on the coast, or in the resort itself.
