Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport is located 22km (14 miles) east of Johannesburg.

Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport was almost entirely redeveloped prior to South Africa’s hosting of the 2010 World Cup. A further terminal building is planned, to be located between the runways, and aimed for completion by 2012. A new 5,200 capacity car park is also under construction.
Airport information desks are located in International Arrivals and Departures, and Domestic Arrivals. Information and flight details are available via the airport helpdesk (tel: (011) 921 6262). The Gauteng Tourism Authority Information Desk is situated in the International Arrivals Terminal (tel: (011) 390 3614/02).
A free shuttle bus operates between terminals and car parks.
From Johannesburg, take the R24 to the airport; from Pretoria, take the R21. The airport is clearly signposted from these approach roads.
Public Transport
Train: The high-speed Gautrain (tel: (0800) 428 87426; www.gautrain.co.za) runs between Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport and Sandton; completion of the line into central Johannesburg is scheduled for 2011.
Bus: Magic Bus Airport Transfers (tel: (011) 548 0822) has an office on the ground floor of the domestic Parkade building, and operates scheduled minibus services to and from the city.
Taxi: Official taxis operate from the bus and taxi terminal in the multi-storey car park building behind the car hire desks.
Terminal facilities
There are ATMs, banks and bureaux de change at the airport, as well as a post office. Mobile telephone hire is also available. Wireless Internet access is available in the International Departures area.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink. Food outlets include coffee shops, a juice bar, steak houses, a bakery, and fast-food restaurants.
Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport has a wide variety of shops, including a duty-free mall.
A left-luggage facility (tel: (011) 390 1804) is available on the upper level of the underground car park, just off the International Arrivals area. Porters are available in the Arrivals hall and can be recognised by bright orange uniforms and ACSA badges; visitors should not use unauthorised porters; tipping is recommended.
There is a 24-hour medical clinic, a chapel, an Islamic prayer room and baby change facilities.
Airport facilities
There is a Business Centre (tel: (011) 921 6262) with facilities including fax, telephone and secretarial services. A Premier Conference Centre (tel: (011) 390 1084), in the Domestic Terminal, offers four meeting rooms seating up to 14 delegates, a seminar facility for up to 50 delegates and a conference room for up to 120 delegates. A media conference room is also available.
The airport has lifts (two of them are equipped with Braille signage) and ramps throughout the terminals. Disabled parking spaces are available. The free shuttle service that serves the remote car parking area can accommodate passengers in wheelchairs. Disabled passengers without a disabled pass should contact the ACSA-JIA help desk (tel: (011) 921 6262) for assistance. A golf cart service, which can accommodate disabled passengers, operates between the terminals and the car hire areas.
There are several car parks offering short- and long-term parking, including an underground facility, as well as outdoor and shaded parking. A free 24-hour shuttle bus service operates between the furthest car parks and the terminals. Call the ACSA office, open daily 24 hours (tel: (011) 921 6090/1) for further parking information. Valet parking, operated by Executive Carports (tel: (011) 390 2062; www.executivecarport.co.za) is available.
Companies Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Imperial, Khaya, National, Sizwe and Tempest are located in the multi-storey car park opposite the Domestic Terminal.
Airport hotels
Southern Sun Garden Court offers a complimentary shuttle service to O.R Tambo International Airport. The hotel has its own restaurant and pub.
