Dubai International Airport is located 4km (2.5 miles) southeast of Dubai.
(04) 224 5555.
Among the busiest airports in the world, Dubai International Airport is a key hub for flights to and from the Middle East. Our Dubai International Airport guide includes airport contacts as well as information on transportation to and from the city, parking options and terminal facilities.
The Concourse A extension of Terminal 3 opened in early 2013 – this is a dedicated concourse for the Airbus A380 aircraft. Refurbishment of Terminal 1 is currently taking place and is due for completion by the end of 2014, while Terminal 2 is undergoing a period of expansion.
Airport information desks are located at various points within the terminals. The DTCM Tourist Kiosk (Department of Tourism and Commerce) (tel: (04) 282 1111; www.dubaitourism.ae) in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall provides tourist information, maps and tours – there is also a tourist information stand in Terminal 3.
Transfers between terminals take 15 to 25 minutes using the airport shuttle service. It’s also possible to use the Metro to travel between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.
Terminal 1 (which serves most non-Emirates international flights) is connected to its departures area (Concourse C) via travelators. Terminal 2 is used primarily for charter flights and some routes within the Gulf region, while Terminal 3 (and its Concourses A and B) is solely for Emirates and Qantas flights.
The Airport Road runs directly southeast from Dubai city centre on the east side of The Creek (Al-Khor). From locations south of Dubai, cross Al-Khor at Al-Garhoud Bridge and drive north, then turn right at the intersection with Airport Road. Terminal 2 is situated to the north of Terminals 1 and 3, and is accessed from Al Towar Road and Rashidiya. The driving time from the city centre to the airport is around 10 minutes.
Metro: The Metro link (tel: 800 9090; www.rta.ae) runs frequently between the airport and Dubai city. Stations are located in Terminals 1 and 3. The journey time to the city is between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the destination.
Bus: A bus service (tel: 800 9090; www.rta.ae) runs to the city centre from stations opposite Terminals 1 and 2. Buses 4, 11, 15, 33 and 44 depart from Terminal 1, while bus 2 operates from Terminal 2. In addition, Dubai International Airport Buses provide air-conditioned transport into the city centre and more than 80 hotels.
Taxi: Prepaid taxis can be booked 24 hours a day in the Terminal 1 Arrivals hall. The journey to the city takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Banking services, ATMs and bureaux de change are available from a number of banks in each terminal and within the concourses. Dubai Duty Free (www.dubaidutyfree.com) also offers foreign exchange, banking and internet facilities.
There is a 24-hour post office near gate 18 on Concourse C. Free Wi-Fi internet access is granted to passengers in all terminals and at the gates. Touch-screen internet kiosks, which take credit card payments, are located in Concourse C.
There is a large range of cafés, bars and restaurants at Dubai International Airport, with the largest concentrations in Concourses A, B and C. The food court in Concourse C is home to a range of fast-food outlets; Concourse A has a good range of restaurants and bars – including a champagne bar; while Concourse B is houses a seafood restaurant among its many options. The public areas of Terminals 1 and 3 host a good range of eateries, while Terminal 2 has a small selection of cafés, restaurants and fast-food outlets.
A comprehensive duty-free shopping experience is available at Dubai International Airport, which includes a wide-ranging selection of duty-free shops at Concourses A, B and C and a smaller choice in Terminals 1 and 3. Shops here range from newsagents to outlets selling designer clothes and watches.
A baggage relocation system electronically tags each piece of luggage in order to make retrieval of lost luggage faster and easier – those who have lost luggage should fill in the form on the airport’s website or notify airport staff in the baggage reclaim area. Short-term baggage storage is available in all terminals, and there is also a luggage delivery service.
The Dubai International Hotel (tel: (04) 224 4000; www.dubaiintlhotels.com) has five meeting rooms accommodating six to 18 delegates, and a conference room for up to 60 delegates. Its facilities are spread over Terminals 1 and 3.
There is a dedicated business lounge in Concourse C with work areas and shower facilities, and Emirates lounges in the Terminal 3 departure concourses. Several first- and business-class lounges and VIP lounges are available throughout the airport: access to the luxury Marhaba lounges (tel: (04) 224 5780 or 216 2630) in Terminals 1 and 3 should be arranged at least 24-hours in advance.
The Al Majlis VIP Service (tel: (04) 216 5287) is available in Terminals 1 and 3 and encompasses various lounges, limousine transfers to the aircraft and assistance with check-in, immigration and baggage.
There are helpdesks for passengers with disabilities (tel: (04) 216 2016) in the main Terminal 1 departures hall. Electric carts are available to transport passengers to/from the concourses, where disabled passengers can access special lounges. Passengers should request assistance (prior to travelling) from their airline, which will in turn notify the airport of any particular needs.
Short- and long-term parking facilities are available 24 hours a day at Dubai International Airport. Short-term parking is located close to the terminals, while long-term areas are connected via a shuttle bus, which takes around five minutes to reach the terminals.
An online booking facility is available via the airport’s website. More information on facilities and rates is available from the airport (tel: (04) 216 1254 for Terminal 1; 216 5114 for Terminal 2 or 504 8433 for Terminal 3).
There are numerous car hire companies available in the arrivals areas of all terminals, including Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, National, Thrifty and several locally based operators.
The Dubai International Hotel, a 5-star facility in Terminals 1 (Concourse C) and 3 (Concourse A and B), is the only full-service accommodation option within the airport complex, but there are a number of hotels near the airport. Our Dubai International Airport guide includes the following hotels:
