York travel guide
York is an extraordinary city, thanks to the way it has immaculately maintained its medieval splendour. York is encircled by fantastically preserved 13th-century walls, within which lie magnificent architecture and the glorious Minster, an awe-inspiring Gothic edifice carved out of golden sandstone. York’s cathedral is surrounded by a tangle of cobblestone streets, such as The Shambles, a honeypot for visitors.
But York is not merely a heritage city, but a lively, elegant place with a large student population, some great museums, a vibrant arts scene and highly-acclaimed restaurants.
