About Istanbul Atatürk International Airport (IST)
Istanbul Atatürk International Airport is the larger of two major airports serving the Turkish capital, and is the busiest in the country in terms of passenger numbers. The airport is scheduled to close when the so-called Istanbul New Airport opens in 2017. Once construction is completed the new airport will be the largest in the world, rendering Istanbul Atatürk International Airport redundant.

Kennedy Caddesi (Avenue) snakes its way along the coast and leads directly from the centre of Istanbul to the airport.
Transfer between terminals:
A walkway with escalators and travelators connects the two terminals.

Public transport road:
Bus: A cheap, although somewhat confusing, mode of transport; public buses run from the airport to central Istanbul. For further information, visit the IETT website (tel: +90 212 444 1871; www.iett.gov.tr/en). Journey time to the city centre is 40-50 minutes, and fares start at TL2.40.
Shuttle: Easier to navigate than public buses Havatas (tel: +90 212 444 2656; www.havatas.com) organises a shuttle service from the airport to the city centre, including Taksim Square (fare: TL8.50) and Etiler (fare: TL9.50). The journey time is roughly 40-50 minutes depending on traffic and the pickup point is directly outside the terminals.
Taxi:Taxis (tel: +90 533 252 0036; www.istanbulairporttaxis.com) ordolmuş (shared taxis) are available outside the terminals. The price for inner city destinations is around TL40 and the journey time is roughly 30 minutes.
Public transport rail:
Metro:The Metro (tel: +90 212 444 0088; www.istanbul-ulasim.com.tr) system line M1 connects Istanbul Atatürk International Airport to various city centre and suburban destinations. Fares start at TL4 with discounts for students and online orders.
There are several banks with bureau de change facilities, as well as numerous ATMs in the terminals.
There is a choice of bars, snack bars, cafés, fast-food outlets and restaurants at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, some of which are open 24 hours a day.
24-hour shopping is available at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport, including an authentic bazaar and duty-free shopping in the International Terminal.
For lost and found items, contact the lost property office desks (tel: +90 212 463 3000) in the baggage reclaim areas. A 24-hour left-luggage facility is available in the arrivals area of both terminals for those wishing to store items. A porter service operates 24 hours a day.
Other facilities at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport include a 24-hour pharmacy and first aid clinic, baby care rooms, a children's play room and hairdressers. There are also six mosques within the airport that are open 24 hours a day. A travel agency service is also available.
Conference and business:
There is a conference centre (tel: +90 212 444 9828) located on-site at the airport, with two conference halls seating up to 100 and 50 delegates respectively.
There are a number of CIP lounges in the International Terminal, offering internet, fax and photocopying facilities; some of these are open 24 hours a day. Some airlines also provide business lounges, while the Millennium Lounge serves business-class passengers of various airlines.
Business and conference facilities are also available at the on-site TAV Airport Hotel (tel: +90 212 465 4030; www.tavairporthotel.com), and the nearby Radisson Blu Conference & Airport Hotel (tel: +90 212 411 3838; www.radissonblu.com).
Istanbul Atatürk International Airport has lifts, numerous wheelchair-accessible toilets and reserved parking spaces. Disabled passengers requiring assistance with aircraft boarding are advised to contact their airline in advance. Wheelchairs are available at the airport, but passengers should make advance arrangements with their airline. A bridge taxi is available after passport control on the departures floor for those who need to get to distant gates.

International car hire companies represented at Istanbul Atatürk International Airport include: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty, as well as a number of local operators. Counters are located in the arrivals area of both terminals, just after the baggage reclaim area.
