Eid al Adha

An important religious holiday, which falls on a different date each year. Many families slaughter a lamb, in remembrance of God’s intervention to provide Abraham with a lamb to sacrifice, in place of his son, Ishmael. Most venues do not serve alcohol the night before, and the first day of Eid.

Doha International Trade Fair

This is the biggest consumer event in the Qatari calendar, when over 500 shops, designers and boutiques from 29 countries take over the Exhibition Centre, selling every from jewellery and handicrafts to glass and porcelain, clothes and children’s toys.

National Day

A festival honouring Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammed bin Thani, considered the father of the country. The day is a national bank holiday, ending with spectacular fireworks displays in cities around the country.

The Emir’s GCC Camel Race

The biggest event in the camel-racing calendar, hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators flock to the Al Shahaniya camel-racing track, around 45 minutes drive north of Doha.

Souq Waqif Spring Festival

This family festival that brings together street performers, puppet and musical shows, along with African circus performers, magicians and a range of slightly surreal one-off events, including a human cannonball and bungee jumping.

Run The World Festival

A weeklong set of events, competitions, festival, and conferences that connect the youth of Qatar together in a celebration of the country’s achievements. The theme of this year’s festival is youth and sports.

Kite Festival

The skies above Katara Beach in Doha will be filled with kites for this three-day festival, which will also include food, competitions, prizes, and children’s games.

Qatar Masters Golf

Each year, top golfers from around the world are invited to compete in the annual Qatar Masters Golf tournament, part of the PGA European Tour (one of the biggest golf tours in the world). The course is renowned for its tough par 3s and numerous water hazards.
