Passports

To enter Algeria, visitors must hold a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival.

Visas

Only a limited number of countries have visa exemptions. These include Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles and Tunisia, typically for short stays and subject to prevailing entry regulations.

Nationals of the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and all EU member states require a visa to enter Algeria.

Tourist visa costs for Algeria vary depending on nationality.

Validity

Algerian tourist visas typically permit stays of up to 90 days, although the overall visa validity may range from 90 days to six months, depending on the issuing embassy and visa type. Travellers on organised tours may be eligible for a 30-day visa on arrival, subject to prior approval and local arrangements.

Transit

No visa is required for airside transit of less than 24 hours, provided travellers remain within the airport's international transit area. A transit visa is required if leaving the airport.

For tourists travelling to Algeria as part of an organised tour arranged through an approved travel agency, visas may be issued within 48 hours once a complete application has been received by the relevant diplomatic or consular post. For standard in-person applications, processing typically takes around 10 working days, although this may be longer depending on the embassy, the applicant's nationality and the time of year.
