Where to stay in Nepal
Hotels
Nepal offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and travel styles. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, visitors will find everything from international hotels and boutique heritage properties to budget guesthouses and homestays. Tourist areas like Thamel and Lakeside have the highest concentration of mid-range hotels and hostels, often with reliable Wi-Fi and travel services. In rural areas and trekking regions, accommodation is typically in teahouses or lodges that provide simple rooms and shared facilities. Standards vary, but they are generally clean, welcoming and geared toward trekkers. Advance booking is recommended during peak trekking seasons, especially in popular regions such as Everest and Annapurna.
Camping
Camping is an option in Nepal, particularly for remote treks where teahouses are limited or unavailable. Organised camping treks usually include a full support team to handle tents, cooking and equipment, making them suitable for multi-day routes in less-developed regions. Independent camping is less common and can be challenging due to terrain, weather and the need for proper permissions in certain conservation areas and national parks. Trekkers should use designated camping areas where available and follow Leave No Trace principles to minimise environmental impact.
