Ethiopia Visa and Passport Requirements

To enter Ethiopia, a passport valid for six months is required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.
Visas for Ethiopia are required by all nationals referred to in the chart above, except transit passengers continuing to a third country within 12 hours - providing they do not leave the airport, and hold valid travel documents for their onward destination.
Some tourist visas for the following can be issued on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport:
• Foreign nationals coming from countries where there is no Ethiopian mission.
• Foreign nationals coming from, and who are permanent residents in, any of the following countries (1): Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the USA.
If applying for a tourist visa on arrival, visitors require two passport photographs and US$20; applications can take up to two hours.
Nationals not referred to in the chart are advised to contact the embassy to check visa requirements for Ethiopia.
Tourist visa on arrival: US$20; tourist, transit and business visas obtained in advance: £14 (single-entry); £22 (multiple-entry).
Visas for US nationals differ from the rest of the nationals in the chart above:
Single- or multiple-entry tourist visa valid for up to two years: US$70; six-month multiple-entry business visa: US$70.
Single-entry: 30 days; multiple-entry: three months.
Visas are valid from the date of issue, not from the date of entry; visas cannot be post-dated.

Visas for Ethiopia take around two to three working days to process, but longer if the application is by post.
Visa applicants must supply proof of sufficent funds; a bank statement usually suffices.
